UT W**d Tour Next Wednesday June 17
news.utcrops.com/2026/06/ut-w**d-tour-next-wednesday-june-17
Larry Steckel, Extension W**d Specialist

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will host the annual W**d Tour June 17 at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center. The guided tour will feature 40 w**d management research tests in cotton, corn and soybean.

W**d Tour runs from 9 – 11:30 a.m., with registration opening at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served.

Larry Steckel, UT Extension w**d specialist, will lead the tour, along with graduate students Hayden Love, Sally Reed and Gavin Sparks.

Most of the research featured in the 2026 W**d Tour involves management of herbicide-resistant grass species and multiple herbicide-resistant Palmer amaranth. Management of these w**ds in Xtend and Enlist w**d control systems will also be highlighted.

The tour will also highlight research trials on the new herbicide resistant trait crops Axant cotton and Vyconic soybean. The implications of being able to incorporate HPPD-inhibiting herbicides into w**d management in those crops will be on display. Also, with the future availability of paraquat in question, a study examining potential substitutions will be shown and discussed.

The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located at 605 Airways Boulevard, Jackson, Tennessee. Upon arrival, follow signs to the w**d management research plots. For directions or more information, call 731-425-4705.

Through its mission of research, teaching and extension, the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture touches lives and provides Real. Life. Solutions. ag.tennessee.edu

πŸ§΅β˜€οΈ Sew Your Summer Recap! β˜€οΈπŸ§΅

Yesterday was a wonderful day of learning and creativity! Participants learned sewing machine basics while creating their own sunglasses pouch and pillowcase to take home.

🎁 We were also able to give away several Start-to-Sew Kits for beginner sewers and, thanks to a generous donation from one of our sewing volunteers, a participant went home with a sewing machine!

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers for helping make this class a success: Lori, Martha, Melissa, Nikki, & Wendy. Thank you all for sharing your time, talents, and encouragement with our new sewers!

Thank you to all of the parents and participants for entrusting me and our volunteers to teach sewing machine basics and guide students through their projects. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of your sewing journey!

πŸͺ‘ If you enjoy sewing and would like to support beginner sewers by contributing to hands-on learning programs and educational sewing experiences, please contact the UT Extension Office.
