ROOTS: A Community Screening Series

We invite you to join us for a special community screening of the iconic “Roots” series, presented across four locations:

UT Martin
UT Martin Somerville Center
UT Martin Ripley Center
Dunbar-Carver Museum

The series begins Tuesday, September 8, at 6 p.m. Each week, we will gather to view an episode of Roots, followed by a discussion session exploring the history, themes and impact of this powerful story.

📖🎥Rooted in History: An ENTICE Community Viewing Event of Roots

Join us as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alex Haley’s landmark novel, Roots, through a free community screening of the acclaimed television miniseries.

This six-week viewing series invites our communities to come together to reflect on the powerful story of family, resilience, identity, and history. Each screening will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will take place simultaneously at four community locations. Following each screening, participants from all four locations will join together for a live reflection and discussion, creating a shared community conversation across West Tennessee.

That’s a wrap on Freshman Flight of Passage 2026!✈️☁️

What an incredible two days! We had the privilege of welcoming an outstanding group of incoming high school freshmen to the UT Martin Somerville Center for our annual Freshman Flight of Passage program.

From team-building and career exploration to critical thinking activities, ACT preparation, and the ACT Residual Exam, these students embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Their positive attitudes, thoughtful questions, and encouragement of one another made this year’s program truly special.

A heartfelt thank you to our presenters, facilitators, and community partners who invested their time and expertise into helping these students prepare for the exciting journey ahead.
