IUSB Political Science Department

IUSB Political Science Department IUSB Political Science Department. A place for Political Science alumni, students and faculty to get involved and stay connected.

Courses offered by the Department of Political Science introduce students to the study of government and politics, including an understanding of public affairs, different political systems and political ideas. Our program intends to educate citizens who can think critically about politics and its place in their lives and in society; to provide a general liberal-arts education for students continui

ng on to a wide variety of careers, including public service; and to help prepare those students who choose to continue on to graduate school or law school. Through their coursework, our students also come to understand some of the ways in which political scientists study politics, and they learn to express themselves cogently in writing and orally. The department offers both graduate and undergraduate programs.

Always a highlight of ! Professor Elizabeth Bennion enjoyed catching up with IU South Bend Political Science alumni Anna Hutcheson (Shawnee State University) and Amanda Heideman (University of Missouri–St. Louis) over dinner in Chicago.

Both alums are now professors who have landed coveted tenure‑track positions. It was a joy to celebrate their well‑deserved success. Titan pride runs deep! 🎓💙

Congratulations to political science professor Elizabeth Bennion on her nomination as a TITAN BRIDGE BUILDER.

Congratulations to political science professor Elizabeth Bennion on her nomination as a TITAN BRIDGE BUILDER.

I appreciate this meaningful recognition as a bridge builder. Seeking to build bridges and help people talk across difference is a big part of my mission and job as a political scientist and Director of Community Engagement and the American Democracy Project at IU South Bend. It is a privilege to do this work during this difficult time of negative partisanship and political polarization.
