Marshall University Counseling Program

Marshall University Counseling Program The Master's Program in Counseling is a 60 hour degree preparing students to be licensed in School or Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Both emphases are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Master of Arts degree in Counseling is a 60-hour planned program of study designed to meet the necessary competencies of professional counselors and CACREP standards. While not an online only program (asynchronous), students who do not wish to or are not able to come to campus

may still complete the program through distance education. There are currently three options for course delivery in this program, fully online (asynchronous) , virtual (some synchronous meetings but online via video-conferencing), and hybrid face-to-face (some in class, some online). Students in the program will experience all three of these methods of course delivery during their program. Curricular elements consist of core courses required of all counseling majors and emphasis courses specific to Clinical mental health counseling and School counseling

The Master of Arts degree in Counseling at Marshall University is accredited by CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs) for both Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling and follows the codes if ethics for ACA (American
Counseling Association) and ASCA (American School Counselors Association). Within this context it is the mission of the Counseling Program to prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenges associated with entry into the field of counseling and into their role as professional counselors. Program graduates are eligible to apply for WV licensure in counseling at the point they complete this program. Full licensure requires that they must also pass a comprehensive licensure examination and complete post-graduate supervision. Students and graduates residing outside the state of WV must consult the licensing requirements of the states in which they reside to determine what additional courses they may need to take.
