The Mount Holyoke College community is invited to honor and learn from the histories and voices of the College’s Southwest Asian and North African communities during SWANA Heritage Month.

The month of programming kicks off tonight, April 6, with an opening ceremony featuring editor Leyla Moushabeck. Join as she discusses the vital intersections of heritage, storytelling and solidarity.

This year, programming is guided by the national theme set by The Arab America Foundation: "Many Voices, One Community,” which emphasizes that this diversity is our greatest strength — one that deeply enriches our campus and collective story. This year's theme is an invitation to honor our individual differences while simultaneously affirming our unity as one community, bound together by shared values of family, resilience, belonging and contribution. This theme beautifully reflects the incredible breadth of SWANA identities while affirming the core values that unite us.

Welcome back to campus! As you start your semester, please remember to follow posted detour signs to get to Kendall.

Cutting up the hillside may seem faster, but it damages plants, compacts soil, and creates unsafe, inaccessible paths. Everett Road is safer for everyone and helps protect the land.

Plus, detours have their perks: a quick mental reset, more movement and fresh air, and a chance to notice parts of campus you might’ve missed before.

Thanks for helping keep our campus safe, accessible, and sustainable 💚
