近日有中學生在科研比賽獲獎引起「請槍」的爭議。不過，香港仍有學生熱衷於科學，更以科學夢衝出香港。15歲女生趙詠兒（Valarie）獲美國《時代》雜誌選為首屆「年度少女」。其科學之路由小學一次科學實驗開始，令她決心設立非牟利組織推廣科學教育。在《時代》雜誌訪問中 ，她提到：“I believe that actually I have the power to make an impact in my community.”（我相信我有能力影響這個社會）。

Valarie今年15歲，就讀於嘉諾撒聖瑪利書院。她熱愛科學，並在12歲時創立了推廣科學教育活動的非牟利組織Teen animals da scientists (青年動物科學家)。在接受《時代》雜誌訪問時，Valarie提及現時科學教育正處於「真空」狀態。而她設立組織的原因之一，是期望不同經濟能力的青少年也能享受科學的樂趣。「有些人會認為科學教育很昂貴，當他們未能應付生活所需，就更加不會在意科學教育。」

組織設有不同工作坊和教學活動，更聯同十多個國家的青少年合作，例如迦納、印度和巴基斯坦等等。今年七月，他們更推出電子雜誌《Healthy Planet ,Healthy People》（健康星球，健康人類）。教育內容相當多元化，包括鯊魚和蝴蝶保育。組織的YouTube頻道也有不少有關神經科學的影片。

對於首次受到媒體訪問，Valarie在社交平台上分享自己相當感恩。雖然她指自己在受訪時很緊張，但仍能自信地回答記者問題。這次訪問亦令她相信青少年也有能力為社會作出改變。她在訪問中指：「科學能解釋很多自然現象，也有助研發各種產品與科技發明。我相信科學上的進步對日後解決全球問題相當重要。」
