Could not have said it better, Mr. Balasa!
Please take a moment to read this article from our CAAHEP President, Donald A. Balasa, JD, MBA. In addition to being our President, Mr. Balasa also serves as the CEO and Legal Counsel for Certified Medical Assistants through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).

The Spokane Community College Medical Assistant Program recognizes that we, as a community, are feeling the burden brought upon by the high demand of Medical Assistant positions out there. In a time where short-cuts, accelerated modules, or even diminished/removed curriculum is taking place simply to fill positions, the SCC Medical Assistant Program refuse to lessen our practices, standing strong in our Standards and Expectations, for our program, our graduates, and our community members! In committing to this hard path, this may lead to low enrollment for the time being, yet as Mr. Balasa states, “…I would assert that the short-terms benefit of increasing the pool of professionals by attenuating the education requirement: (1) would be outweighed by the long-term lessening in the quality of care; and (2) would perpetuate barriers to interstate mobility because the truncated education would differ from the national standard and from legally-mandated education in other states.” We owe it to ourselves, and to our community at large, to continue producing quality, excellence and the highest standards deserved within the profession of Medical Assisting and the greater Spokane region. Quality over quantity, my friends.
The Spokane Community College Medical Assistant Program wants to thank YOU for having chosen SCC as your investment to yourself and your career! We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t truly love what we do; putting our every effort, decision making/implementation and production within the program towards the overall health and safeguarding of our community at large!
Keep up the great work out there and please remember to share our program information with anyone interested, whether they be friend, family, or colleague. Stay safe out there!
Mrs. Thoen
