We are so proud of these three students and what they have accomplished. They demonstrate what it means to be a faithful steward of the gifts that God has given them and we are excited to see the impact that they will have on our world.

It is Whitworth's One Pine Day, a day devoted to raising funds for specific projects that directly benefit students. One of those projects is supporting our CubeSat effort. Students are in the midst of a multiyear effort to develop a small satellite. If you want to support them, visit

Today, your support grows students’ lives and dreams.

We know that many of our students do good work on faculty-led research projects. It is gratifying when that excellence is recognized by outsiders. Congratulations to Valerie Hanes on the work she did this past summer and her ability to communicate it clearly with others.

Congratulations to physics major Valerie Hanes ’27, who earned the Best Poster Award at this year’s Murdock College Science Research Conference! Hanes’ award-winning poster, titled “Modeling Cell Motion in Time-Dependent Electric Fields,” showcased her impressive summer research conducted under the mentorship of Whitworth Engineering & Physics Department faculty members John Larkin and Jonathan Dawson.

Hanes’ work contributes to a larger, three-year research project funded by the Murdock Charitable Trust and led by Dawson that aims to develop a deeper, mechanistic understanding of how biological cells move in response to external electric fields. This recognition highlights not only Hanes' exceptional talent and dedication but also the cutting-edge research opportunities available to our students. At Whitworth, students can press into their curiosity through hands-on undergraduate research that bridges physics, engineering and biology.

It is Whitworth's spring One Pine Day. There are many good projects seeking support. Among those is the equipment fund for the new engineering building. We plan to begin teaching classes in PACCAR Engineering in January 2026, but in order to do that we need to fill those new spaces with equipment to support student learning.

Today, each new monthly donor to one of the Help-A-Pirate projects, releases a $500 challenge grant, up to $10,000 total.
