Mike Levers (left) and Darren McCrea co-founded the University of Spokamsterdam last month. There are no ma*****na plants on site, but students learn how to grow the plant properly.

For the past 10 years, Darren McCrea’s life has been medical ma*****na. He launched Spocannabis, a patient support group and proto-dispensary before dispensaries existed. He manned a cannabis booth at Pig Out in the Park before most people had heard the word “cannabis.
