This week in IS234 Computer Forensics, students have been introduced to their case. The spend the majority of the course investigating a computer in a scenario where 'building blocks are outlawed'. They spend weeks finding evidence supporting the prosecution of 'Lego Ownership'. They find images, emails, Facebook activity, videos, oh my. Exciting return to class! This is a screenshot of the software they use, Autopsy, to find and track evidence.

Back to school! A select handful of our classes in the AAS IT degree are in-person. What a treat to have students in a classroom. The first class of the quarter was Network Security 1 led by Instructor, Mark Neufville. Looking forward to a great quarter. Welcome back

Here is a quick summary of what happens in IS 101 - Information Technology Planning class each week
All classes start with a first week of introduction about the course

1. Introduction about the course
2. Inform students about IS/CS degree options and courses
3. Examine different IT jobs, roles, and careers in anticipation of course
selection for upcoming quarters
4. Preparation for the next quarter registration
5. Determine and build personalized degree plans that they can follow
6. Learn about campus and departmental resources
7. Role of resumes, e-portfolios, and LinkedIn in their careers
8. Examine academic expectations, resources, and cheating
9. Learn and discover the internship roles, opportunities and
recommendations for our programs
10. Review of resources and upcoming courses

Over Winter break, we hosted a 'Capture the Flag Bootcamp' to prepare students for the Spokane Mayor's Cup competition. Ten students spent two days learning how common methods and tools they will need to compete. The competition will be hosted at SFCC Februrary 8th, 2020.

Our AAS and BAS degrees have an internship requirement. This quarter we have two new interns starting at Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. We have had many students gain excellent work experience across the region as they earn while they learn.

What a wonderful start to the Winter 2020 quarter. A full group of IS students in our introductory courses. We offer all courses for our AAS IT degree Fall, Winter and Spring. Students can start any quarter and complete the degree in two years. Stop by or message to see what kind of jobs our graduates are getting.

We are very excited to announce that the Information Systems/Computer Science department at SFCC has been awarded an National Science Foundation Applied Technology Education Grant.
Grant 1902320 is focused on developing internships centered on IT students with cyber security skills emphasis. We are soliciting Spokane regional partners to help establish a small working group to clearly define regional needs and participant expectations. Additionally we have a goal of placing our first group of paid interns starting this summer.

🔹 Digital evidence recovery
🔹 Forensic laboratory analysis
🔹 Legal and technical issues regarding seizure and acquiring computer evidence, and chain of custody
🔹 Computer network protocols and security, intrusion detection, and network forensics
