Coaches and Debaters - If you're still looking for a tournament the first weekend in January we would love to have you join us for the Gonzaga tournament. The CX division is hybrid so students can compete in-person or online, although we would much prefer to see you in person :-) Please DM us if you have any questions that aren't answered in the invite. Congrats to Avalyn Renee and Kaelyn Wellman on advancing to the Octafinals at the American Debate Association National Tournament. They ultimately lost the debate to a very talented team from Wake Forest, but still a great weekend to be a Zag!

Congrats to Avalyn Renee and Andrea Moreno who placed second at the 2023 University of Minnesota College Invitational! They posted a 5-1 record in prelims, clearing as the fourth seed and eventually advancing to the finals where they lost a close one to Dartmouth/Pennsylvania DE. Avalyn was 4th speaker and Andrea 12th speaker! A great weekend for a couple of outstanding debaters! Thanks to DCH and the Minnesota crew for a well run tournament. We'll be back! Go Zags!!!

Good luck to Sam Basler and James Elias, who will be debating in the final round at the Southwestern College tournament!

Lauren Johnson and Logan McRoberts had a great run in San Diego as well, finishing off their tournament as quarterfinalists.

Best of luck to our British Parliamentary team, who departs today for the Mahaffet Memorial Tournament at Linfield College with a force of old faces and a number of brand new additions to our squad!

The Zags had a great weekend at the Northwest Fall Championship hosted by the University of Washington!

Sam Basler/James Elias finished prelims with a 5-1 record, losing a close quarterfinals debate to the University of Wyoming on a 2-1 decision.

Lauren Johnson/Logan McRoberts and Dillon Johnson/Paige Spraker both finished prelims with a 6-0 record. After ending up on the same side of the bracket in semifinals, JS advanced to the finals.

Joe Skög and Ben Weinhardt also advanced to the finals after finishing prelims undefeated, closing out the tournament for GU.

Best of luck to our two teams, Sam Basler/James Elias and Lauren Johnson/Logan McRoberts who depart bright and early tomorrow to compete at the Sun Devil Invitational hosted by Arizona State University!

Congratulations are also in order to our British Parliamentary team, who competed this past weekend at Lewis and Clark University. Matt Filpi and Trent DeGiovanni finished the tournament as semifinalists, just a few weeks after they won the Oregon State Penitentiary Debates!

Congratulations to many of our policy debate teams who competed at tournaments at Weber State University and the University of Kentucky at the beginning of the month.

At Weber State University, Sam Basler and James Elias posted a 5-3 record (including 5 wins in a row!) and cleared to the double octafinals.

Joe Skög and Ben Weinhardt had a great run as the ninth overall seed, finishing the tournament as quarterfinalists.

To round out the weekend, at the University of Kentucky, Paige Spraker and Dillon Johnson cleared to the double octafinals.
