When SFCC needed an advisor for the LGBTQ+ club, English professor Dr. Barbara Williamson stepped up.

She has since passed the torch, but her advocacy never stopped. She’s been a Grand Marshal of the Spokane Pride Parade, won a Rainbow Award for community activism, helped fight for the LGBTQ+ Center on campus, and watched her students go on to become teachers, counselors, and community members living openly in their own truth.

Her message this Pride Month: we see you, we’ve got you, and when you’re ready, we’re here for you.

The LGBTQ+ Center and the Alliance Club are open to all students. 🏳️‍🌈

Meet Emma. From Pasco, she's finishing Pre-Nursing at SFCC with a plan that starts with traveling and ends in nursing school. She earned the detour.

Someone who made a difference: Professor Bishop: "She cares about our success and always helped us do our best."

Best memory: studying with her best friends.

Finals survival song: I'll Make a Man Out of You.

Congratulations to our newly tenured faculty! 📚We recently celebrated nine faculty members whose dedication to teaching, learning, and student success has earned them tenure.

As Chancellor Kevin Brockbank shared, receiving tenure is "something that can never be taken away from you" a reflection of years of commitment, excellence, and impact.

A special moment of the celebration came when several of Brian Stack’s students surprised attendees by cheering him on from the second-floor gallery, a powerful reminder of the lasting connections our faculty build with students every day.

Join us in congratulating Amy Anderson, Angela Smith, Joshua Martin, Kacie Jones, Zachary Christman, Timothy Sullivan, Greg Bem, Andrea Cons-Diller, and Brian Stack on this incredible achievement! 👏

SFCC Graphic Design students just took home top honors at the 2026 Local American Advertising Awards, including Gold, Silver, and Best of Show recognition for the program’s “Culture Through Design” grad show campaign.

16 students were recognized by the American Advertising Federation Spokane chapter for their creativity, craft, and professionalism. Award recipient Evelina Tischenko said she stared at the email for ten minutes after learning she’d earned a Gold ADDY.

Congrats to every student honored and to instructor John Mujica for building a program that earns this kind of recognition.
