Behind the Design

Growing up, I always felt like everyone knew what they wanted to do early on in their lives, but I could never find my artistic talent. I went through high school attempting different forms of art: music, paint, singing... but none of those were really my gift.

I graduated and went to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia where I studied in Family and Consumer Sciences. I had to work through school so I got a job as a cashier and six months later somehow became acting floral manager at Kroger. I fell in love! I learned so much from my mentor and my favorite part was creating beautiful arrangements or bouquets that I knew would be making someone very happy. Unfortunately, I was never able to see the joy that my designs brought to people.

As I neared the end of my college degree, I was told that I needed to have an internship. So I asked a couple of wedding venues for interviews and I was then hired by R.S. Exclusive Wedding and Event Specialists as an intern. I learned R.S. Exclusive is an amazing business. Sandra Guelzo, the owner and designer of R.S.E. (my teacher and mentor) created her business to be a one stop shop for all your wedding and event needs. R.S. Exclusive coordinates, designs, arranges flowers, and so much more! I was thrown into florals with room to learn and expand my knowledge about wedding floral design! Sandra taught me more about intricate detail, design, and presentation. I was honored to be her apprentice. I learned even more than I had hoped, but better yet I was able to see the bride’s face when I handed her the bouquet that I so intricately designed for her. The owner and very gifted wedding designer of R.S. Exclusive, Sandra, was so amazing! She taught me so much about people and the importance of making everyone feel like they were getting the exclusive experience. We became so close in our working and personal relationship. I was living a dream...

However, family ties became strong, and I realized that I desperately longed to be back home with my family for my children’s sake. So I moved back to Arkansas. I felt a void and homesick for my life back in Virginia, but I knew I was where I needed to be. My husband supported me in anything I wanted to do. I wanted to start my own floral business, but I just didn’t know how. Through some mutual friends and some other inspiring contacts, a wedding fell into my lap! So I decided this is it.
