The next value of Pi Beta Phi is Lifelong Commitment!
Being a part of the Pi Phi sisterhood is a lifelong promise, one that each of us dedicate our entire lives to. Our alumna, Mikayla Yarbrough, was raised under the wings of her mother and surrounded by Pi Phis for as long as she can remember. Read Mikayla’s story to learn why she chose to become an angel and how she continues to embody our sweet sisterhood every day. 👼 💌
“Growing up my mom always spoke so fondly of her time as a Pi Phi. She described a group of women who strived for excellence and created life long friends at the same time. She met her best friend in the chapter. They lived together in college, stood in each other’s weddings, and even ran a Disney marathon together. Her best friend was actually there on the day I was born. They remained close friends throughout adulthood until the very end. Even before losing my mom I knew I wanted to go through recruitment, but after I was even more sure. I knew I needed a group of people to support me and be my family while starting college and grieving so heavily. I went in with an open mind but in Pi Phi I immediately felt at home. I saw traits of my mom in all of the girls, as if she was right there with me. That connection only grew stronger throughout my years in Pi Phi and continues to do so after graduation. Being a Pi Phi helped me become the woman I know she’s proud of. I would not trade my Pi Phi experience for the world. Now having graduated, I have the best support system cheering me on from Springfield and friends I know I will have for the rest of my life. Right now we’re seeing each others’ post grad apartments and going to White Coat Ceremonies, but one day, I know these are the women that will stand beside me at my wedding, come visit me during Residency, and go on family vacations. Not only do I have Mo Gamma with me forever, but I have continued to meet Pi Phi’s during my medical school journey. The bonds of sisterhood are everlasting and pure. I am so proud to have followed in my mother’s footsteps. PPLAM”
