Welcome!

🌟 Welcome our new Executive Director! 🌟

The Board of Directors of Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties (SHFB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Jackson as the organization’s next Executive Director, following a national search conducted by Benefactor Group. A committed nonprofit leader with deep experience with food reclamation, logistics, and nonprofit operations, Jackson is ideally positioned to champion SHFB’s mission to alleviate hunger in Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties by sourcing and distributing nutritious food to people in need, building community partnerships, and mobilizing the public to support hunger relief.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alex Jackson as the next Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank,” said Dulce Hurst, President of the Board. “He is an innovative leader with proven experience in emergency food assistance and a community-centered vision for the future for SHFB’s next chapter.”

Jackson is a seasoned nonprofit leader with more than a decade of experience in nonprofit operations, fundraising, logistics, and food reclamation. Most recently, Alex served as National Director of Programs and Logistics for Food Connect. In this role, Alex oversaw the launch of three new markets for food rescue operations including the San Francisco Bay Area, which redistributed more than 2 million pounds of food last year, just three years after their initial launch. In his role, Alex managed a budget of $2.5 million and a large national team. Prior to joining Food Connect, Alex held leadership roles at PharMerica and Diligent Delivery Systems. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University.

In addition, Jackson has built a strong network in the food bank and food access network in Central Ohio, having served as a volunteer with Mid-Ohio Food Collective, Columbus Food Rescue, and Victory Ministries Center of Hope Food Pantry.

“Access to nutritious food is a fundamental need—and a community responsibility,” said Jackson. “Having relied on food pantries and shelters growing up, I understand firsthand the importance of a strong emergency food system. I am honored to work with the talented team at Second Harvest Food Bank in the mission to ensure that no child, senior, or family in Clark, Champaign, or Logan Counties goes hungry.”

As the organization’s Executive Director, Jackson will oversee Second Harvest Food Bank’s operations and play a critical role in steering its strategic direction. He will be vital to fundraising, advocacy, community collaboration, food sourcing, and stakeholder relations. Under Jackson’s guidance, the organization will continue to positively impact the lives of thousands of Ohio residents and respond to the urgent and growing need for food assistance in our communities.

Jackson succeeds Andy Irick, who is retiring from the role he has served in since 2023. The board thanks Irick for his service and wishes him the best in his next chapter. Jackson will assume the Executive Director role on June 23, 2025.
