Join us for a final performance by students in the African dance class showcasing what they have learned throughout the spring semester.
The program will feature dances from within African and African diaspora traditions, including Fanga, Shosholoza, Gumboot Dance (Isicathulo), and Mandiani (Mendiani), as well as audience participation and call-and-response.
This final performance represents the culmination of students’ growth and exploration of African-rooted movement, rhythm, communal awareness, and cultural lineage, placing them within a living continuum of tradition while engaging the discipline and respect required to study these forms in a contemporary academic setting. The class is taught by instructor Noel Staples-Freeman.
The event is free and open to the Springfield College community.
