Artaxis and the Ceramic Exchange for Women in Ghana are thrilled to announce a partnership to help support the next generation of clay artists in Kumasi, Ghana.
Today we launch a fundraiser to purchase ceramic supplies for students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Students in the KNUST ceramics department often do not have access to the glazes and kilns necessary to fire their work. Without this access, they often critique their work in a bone-dry state.
We are working with nine KNUST alumni who have donated their artwork for the cause. They are: Felix Akortse, Michael Dela Dika, Eugene Ofori Agyei, Emmanuel Asamoah, Vincent “Sniper” Frimpong, Japheth Asiedu Kwarteng, Eric Andre, Joy M. Okokon, and Owusu Ross Junior. 100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase supplies for the students at the school in Kumasi, Ghana.
In addition to purchasing donated work, you can also consider making a donation on the page in any amount in $5 increments.
Reflecting on her own journey, alum and ceramicist Joy Okonon shares, "My journey as a ceramicist was nurtured and began to take shape during my time at KNUST. Fond memories echo the completion of assignments, only to witness them in their bone-dry stage, leading to multiple projects meeting the recycling fate and waiting time to use the equipment, such as the potter’s wheel - one in use for over 100 students. The pinnacle of my experience was the opportunity to use colored glazes on my thesis project – a significant victory."
