Missouri State University Computer Science Department The MSU Computer Science Department consists of 12 faculty and 4 per course instructors. We have 311 undergraduate majors and 138 graduate students.

Our facilities include 4 dedicated computer labs and 3 research labs. The Computer Science Department was originally a part of the Mathematics Department. It became a separate department under Department Head Dr. Bruno Schmidt in the spring of 1984, with 7 faculty and 212 undergraduate majors. In 2017, we added a Master’s in Computer Science program. In 2024, the Computer Science Department consis

ts of 12 faculty and 4 per course instructors, under Department Head Dr. Ajay Katangur. We offer a Bachelor’s Degree with the option to focus in either Computer Science or Software Development, an interdisciplinary Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, and an undergraduate certificate in Web Programming. We also offer a Master’s in Computer Science degree, and two graduate Certificates in Data Science and Software Engineering. The Computer Science BS degree program has been nationally accredited by the ACM/IEEE Computer Sciences Accreditation Board since 1989.

🎉 Congratulations to Our Outstanding Faculty! 🎉
We are proud to celebrate and congratulate our College of Natural and Applied Sciences faculty members who were recently recognized with awards for their dedication, excellence, and contributions to teaching, research, and service in the 2025-2026 academic year. Your hard work and commitment make a meaningful impact on our students, our campus, and our community.

Our Computer Science faculty were presented with the following awards:
• Dr. Jamil Saquer - The Atwood Faculty Research and Teaching Award, given to faculty who have exemplary academic performance, significant publications, and potential to positively influence student lives.
• Dr. Razib Iqbal – CNAS Excellence in Interdisciplinary Research Faculty Award, recognizing faculty involved in collaborative research efforts where results reflect integration of ideas/knowledge from 2 or more disciplines, and/or have shown leadership in promoting interdisciplinary research.
• Dr. Tayo Obafemi-Ajayi – CNAS excellence in Research Faculty Award, given to faculty who published multiple international, national, and/or regional peer-reviewed articles; submitted and/or received multiple external and internal grant proposals; and presented at a number of local, state, regional, national, or international conferences.
