💙 Wellness Wednesday | University of Illinois Springfield Counseling Center 💙
Balancing schoolwork with athletics, jobs, family responsibilities, and personal life can be challenging—especially as the semester picks up speed. Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or mentally exhausted is more common than you might think. Prioritizing your mental health is an important part of academic success and overall well-being.
Here are some wellness tips to help you find balance this semester:
🧠 Check in with yourself
Notice how you’re feeling physically, emotionally, and mentally
Stress, anxiety, and burnout are signals—not failures
📚 Manage academic demands
-Break large assignments into smaller, manageable steps
-Use planners or digital calendars to avoid last-minute stress
-Set realistic expectations for yourself
🏃♀️ Balance sports & extracurriculars
-Remember that rest and recovery matter just as much as performance
-Communicate with coaches or teammates when you’re feeling overwhelmed
-Give yourself permission to take mental health days when needed
💼 Juggling work and school
-Set clear boundaries between work time and study time
-Prioritize sleep and nutrition—even during busy weeks
-Ask for flexibility when possible; advocating for yourself is a strength
🏠 Life beyond campus
-Family responsibilities and home life can add extra pressure
-Stay connected with people who support you
-Create small routines that help you decompress
🤝 You don’t have to do it alone
-The UIS Counseling Center offers a safe, supportive space to talk
-Counseling can help with stress management, anxiety, time management, and more
