4-H Community Education Assistant
The University of Maine Cooperative Extension Community Education Assistant CL2 in York County is responsible for engaging youth, volunteers, and community partners in educational programming around STEM, climate, and data literacy, in support of the Learning Ecosystems Northeast (LENE) grant project.
The NASA-funded LENE project is designed to connect youth to data-rich investigations of local ecologies and strengthen connections between informal and formal learning to create networks of educators dedicated to advancing youth interest in STEM.
By building partnerships with youth, families, and members of the community this position will contribute to building skills and knowledge around local climate impacts to increase awareness and self-efficacy in the next generation of climate stewards.
This position will be located at the Cooperative Extension Office in Springvale, Maine. Part-time, 16 hours per week, 2 year fixed-length, contingent upon funding. This position pays $18.22/hour.

We are looking forward to hosting 4-H families for an in-person overnight event. There will be group activities on Friday evening and educational workshops on Saturday. Animal science tracks will be happening all weekend.

Adulting 101 is back!
Join Ms. Erin and Ms. Laura as we explore ways of using technology to find strong resources, create a spending/saving plan, explore digital etiquette, and ways to practice digital safety.
Open to all Maine youth 12 and older. Registration is now open for 4-H members and opening 6/10 for all Maine youth!

Another great day with campers at the Sanford Parks & Recreation Springvale Playground camp! We did a nature scavenger hunt, with different items holding different point values. The top prize would be awarded to anyone who found a 4-leaf clover. Well, who knew we were working with such good finders! 10 campers spotted 4-leaf clovers! It was incredible. Seems like maybe they should join 4-H! (Or play the lottery!! 🤣)

On Youth Skills Day we wanted to talk about a new 4-H program that builds the skills in youth to be engaged citizens

YOUth have a Voice is a nine-month program open to teens and recent high school graduates who are interested in taking a more active role in serving their local communities, the state, or the country. Youth will learn leadership skills and ways to participate in civic action by completing a service project on a topic of their interest.
We need both youth and mentors to make this program successful!

York County 4-H has partnered up with Sanford Parks & Recreation to deliver nature journal programming once a week all summer at the Springvale Playground Summer Camp. This week was all about identifying patterns in nature and drawing leaves.
