One of the things Dr. Gabriel enjoys most as President of Mayland Community College is the opportunity to meet students and see firsthand the incredible talent, professionalism, and passion they bring to their work each day.

Recently, he visited Mayland’s Cosmetology Arts Center for a haircut from cosmetology student Cloey Morrow — and left incredibly impressed with both the experience and the quality of service she provided.

“Cloey did a fantastic job and was extremely professional from start to finish,” shared Dr. Gabriel. “Experiences like this remind me how talented and career-ready our students truly are.”

Mayland’s Cosmetology Arts Center gives students valuable hands-on, real-world experience while offering affordable salon, esthetics, and nail services to the community in a beautiful new facility.

When you book an appointment, you’re doing more than receiving great service — you’re helping support the education and training of our students as they prepare for successful careers.

What happens when a global technology leader visits a community college in Western North Carolina?
Students get a front-row seat to the future.

Recently, Mayland Community College’s Anspach Advanced Manufacturing School welcomed representatives from Dassault Systèmes — the company behind SOLIDWORKS, one of the world’s most widely used engineering and 3D design platforms.

And this wasn’t just a presentation.

Students, faculty, local industry leaders, and professionals were part of real conversations about how artificial intelligence is transforming engineering, manufacturing, and product design right now.

Think about that for a moment:
Students in our Applied Engineering programs weren’t reading about these changes in a textbook someday down the road…

They were discussing them directly with leaders connected to the technology shaping industries around the world.

That’s the power of hands-on, industry-connected education.
At Mayland, students gain experience with the same tools used by major companies globally while building the practical skills employers are looking for today — and tomorrow.

This incredible opportunity was made possible through the efforts of Adam Ebernickel, who works in the design department at Altec and also serves as an adjunct instructor for Mayland Community College. Through the strong professional relationships Adam has built with Dassault Systèmes, he helped arrange this outstanding visit to Mayland and the Anspach Advanced Manufacturing School.

The future of manufacturing and engineering is changing fast.
We’re proud our students are part of the conversation.

At Mayland Community College, some of the most meaningful learning happens through hands-on experiences that build confidence, independence, creativity, and real-world skills. ❤️

That’s why we’re incredibly proud of our Pre-College Programs team for presenting at the Western Region Professional Development Day held at Blue Ridge Community College earlier this spring.

Our Life Skills/Work Skills team shared innovative experiential learning projects created for adult students with intellectual and developmental disabilities — projects that are making a real difference in students’ lives every single day.

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and the presentation has already sparked interest from other colleges wanting to visit Mayland to see these impactful programs in action.

We are so proud of this team for not only representing Mayland so well, but for helping create opportunities where students can grow, connect, and thrive.

Please help us congratulate our presenters:
Debbie McDowell, Jimette Cook, and Carol Holden

👏 Let’s hear it for Mayland Community College Small Engine students Noah Eggers, Tanner Gouge, and Kate Abrams!

These students recently earned industry-recognized certifications through the Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC) while participating in Small Engine classes led by Roger Huskins at Mayland’s Newland Campus.

🏆 The EETC is a nationally respected certification program in the power equipment industry, with exams developed by manufacturers, dealers, distributors, and industry experts across the country.

Congratulations to:

🔧 Noah Eggers — earned both his Four-Stroke Engine certification and Two-Stroke Engine certification and is already putting his skills to work in the small engine industry in Newland, NC.

🔧 Tanner Gouge and Kate Abrams — both earned their Two-Stroke Engine certifications as new students in the program this spring. A strong start to exciting careers ahead!

At Mayland, students gain hands-on experience and industry credentials that help turn skills into careers.
