The Center on Lived Religion is excited to co-host an interdisciplinary conference in Spring 2025 on "Mapping Spaces, Embodying Territories: Spatial Humanities and GIScience Across the Disciplines"!

Please see the conference website for more information and to submit your proposal: https://sites.google.com/slu.edu/mappingspacesconference/home

We are especially interested in papers, panels, and multimedia projects that examine the lived experiences of space and place, with particular attention to religion, race, and gender; the contributions of critical GIS to studies of migration, settlement, and displacement; technologies of visual representation as they relate to the formation of social and cultural boundaries; and the role of maps and mapmakers in creating and sustaining systems of segregation. Other related topics will also be considered.

We encourage submissions from advanced graduate students, independent scholars, and university faculty of all ranks and status. Funding for this conference has been provided by the Center on Lived Religion, the Center for Culture, Religion, Engineering, Science, and Technology, the Spatial Humanities Initiative of the Taylor Geospatial Institute, the Henry Luce Foundation, and the College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Louis University.

The conference will be held on the campus of Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 3-5, 2025.

Last week we got to host our 2023-2024 Where’s Religion Pilot Testers cohort at Saint Louis University for more than two days of conversation and workshops. This is truly the best part of academia and we could not have had a better experience than we did with this group of fellows from around the country who are doing really exciting work to transform the study, research, and understanding of religion.

Many thanks to SLU, the Henry Luce Foundation, and of course our many Fellows for supporting such an important event!
