“Hello,
My name is River Meise. I’m currently in Florence studying Art History and Game Art with professors Maureen Quigley and Jodi Kolpakov (a faculty-led program). I’m a psychology major, but I’ve always loved art and I thought that studying abroad over the summer would be a fantastic way to learn about it. This is especially due to the location of Florence, which was a very prominent point in the Renaissance period and provided us with many notable works that I’ve been getting to see in-person. This experience has been fantastic both for my education, as previously mentioned, and a great way to develop skills of independence and problem-solving while living so far away from home. I’ve made many unforgettable memories on this trip with my class that I’ll cherish for my lifetime!”

Studio Art BFA major, Kelsea Miann, had the opportunity to participate in the Italy: Art History through Games & Game Arts (Faculty-led) program!

“The Faculty Led program through SRISA in Florence this summer allowed me to do so many amazing things! From getting the opportunity to arrive early and travel the coast of Naples and Amalfi and then a train up to Rome and Bologna and, of course, the lovely Florence herself - the time I spent in Italy this summer allowed me to reconnect with myself and the Emilia-Romagna region where my great grandparents are from. I have felt truly blessed and privileged to be given the opportunity to travel, learn, and create. I’ve made friendships that I plan to nurture throughout the years to come. My instructors are two incredible women I’ve come to admire and cherish! Maureen and Jodi are excellent and I’m grateful to both for their sincerity and expertise. Each museum/site visit was a delight to learn from Maureen and Jodi is incredibly lively and we all had so much fun creating a playable Italy based 8-bit game in her class.

Overall, if anyone is given the opportunity to apply to study abroad, take it and experience life outside your comfort zone! Thank you UMSL for making this happen for us.”

“Hi, I’m Drashti Tailor! Through the Germany: Bremen Summer Business (Faculty-led) program, I experienced life far beyond the classroom.🇩🇪

As a Computer Science major with a Business minor, stepping into a global classroom opened my eyes to new perspectives both academically and personally. Outside the classroom, we met students and professors from different universities, we explored cities across Germany on weekend trips that helped us bond and truly soak in the culture. Living like a German student for a few weeks changed the way I look at education, life balance, and global communication.

Picture 3: Tried one of the best pistachio lattes I’ve ever had in Bremen and yes, it lived up to the hype! 😄☕️ Exploring local cafés and everyday life helped me appreciate the simple joys that make studying abroad unforgettable.
Picture 4: One of the biggest highlights? Taking a class with one of the best professors I’ve ever had—she helped us sharpen our selling skills in ways I never imagined. ✨
Picture 5: Our amazing Study Abroad Group 2025—diverse, driven, and unforgettable.

This program gave me more than just knowledge, it gave me confidence. From connecting with others in professional and social settings to speaking up in group discussions, I stepped out of my comfort zone and grew in ways no textbook could teach. Beyond academic credits, I gained lifelong memories and discovered a stronger version of myself.

Say yes to study abroad. It will challenge you, inspire you, and most importantly, change you. The world is so much bigger than your comfort zone, and once you take that step, you’ll never look back. 🌍💫”

Business administration major, Kimberly Barrera Gonzalez, had the opportunity to study abroad on the Germany: Bremen Summer Business (Faculty-led) program!

“This summer changed me forever. When I decided to study abroad, I had specific goals for what I wanted to learn in my classes, but I came home with so much more than I ever imagined. I met incredible people who broadened my perspective and showed me how many opportunities can arise when we step outside our comfort zones. Experiencing the high-quality food in Europe made me change my eating habits back in the U.S. I also gained a deeper understanding of the international students at UMSL who don’t have a car. Without access to one myself, I learned to navigate public transportation and often walked over 20,000 steps a day, which helped me appreciate a more active lifestyle. If you’re reading this and have been thinking about studying abroad, take this as your sign to go for it. The world is big, and it’s waiting for you to explore it!“
