Go Canoeing!
Join OC exec members Lord Admiral Nathan Walton, Rear Admiral John Jordan, and Commodore Mike Heavner on a naval voyage of epic proportions. We set sail on the morning tide of Saturday 10/15 and will return to the mighty city of St Louis by twilight on Monday 10/17. We will camp along the banks of the scenic Current river as we make our journey. No canoe experience is required, but being comfortable on/in the water is recommended. Go Climbing!
Join OC Leaders Robin and Dakota as they lead a climbing trip to one of the world’s premier sport climbing destinations! This full-fall-break trip will head out to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky for an action packed rock climbing adventure. The trip will be run concurrently with the Climbing Club, so be prepared to make some new friends! We will be camping out so make sure to come prepared for that, but no climbing experience is required! hi i forgot to send this out in our email this week but all you outdoorsy folks check this summer opp out!

Overland Informational Presentation: Thursday, October 29th at 7pm in the Danforth University Center Room 248. Overland is hiring exceptional college students to lead summer programs. We offer hiking, biking, service, language, leadership, field studies and writing programs to students in 4th through 12th grade. Program locations range from New England to the Pacific Coast and abroad in Central & South America, Europe, Tanzania and Southeast Asia.

Our staff of 200 leaders and support staff spend 10 days training and 6 weeks leading or supporting programs throughout the summer.

We are looking for Wash U students who are responsible, fun, dynamic and love working with kids. Please contact Sarah Riessen at [email protected] and [email protected] if you would like to learn more or plan to attend our presentation. Please see the attached PDF for a complete job description.

On Tuesday October 21st at 8pm, Professor Braude will lead a demonstration on acorn shelling and processing at the Burning Kumquat. There will be acorn cakes, made with flour from local foraged acorns, and plenty of hot cocoa to go around. Anyone who attends is also encouraged to bring an instrument, song, or poem to share. The event will be co-sponsored by Burning Kumquat and Outing Club.

In case you missed the email here are our 3 Fall Break Trips!

Canoeing
Howdy people with no fall break plans yet (or even people with crappy current ones, looking at you "I'm going to get caught up on work") - come join Nathan Walton & John Jordan on a 3 day, 2 night canoeing adventure down the Current River. We will cover about 30 miles and camp on the shore each night for campfires, new friends, and general ruckus. No experience of any kind is necessary and we can supply personal gear as need be. The Current River is unbelievably beautiful in the fall, so come experience the Missourian backcountry on the open water. The trip will take ship Friday morning and return Sunday afternoon. Cost is $30 to cover gas, food and canoes & such. We're looking for 10-14 people to join us. It's gunna be quite the shindig. Direct all questions to Nathan ([email protected] or 515-423-4357)

Backpacking
Join Jamie on a backpacking trip at Jackson Shut-Ins! Here are the details:
Leave 8am Friday morning and et to the trail at 10am. Hike the 10 mile loop (with a lunch break), and then camp overnight on the trail. Swim a bit if its nice. Head back to campus around 12pm Saturday with an estimated arrival of 2pm.
Est. Cost $20 per person to cover meals (Friday lunch and dinner and Saturday breakfast) and gas costs.

Bring Sleeping Bag and Sleeping Pad, warm clothes, swimming clothes, and hiking boots!!

Climbing
If you're looking to shred some serious gnar over fall break come join teen-master chef Deedee Pearce and JV basketball star Mike Heavner on a rock climbing trip to HCR (horseshoe canyon ranch). We're gonna be leaving early Friday morning and will be back before Sunday evening. It's gonna cost around $40 per person.

Welcome back WashU! Get ready to hear about our upcoming trips (Offsets anyone?). In the meantime, get to know our Exec for 2014!
President Jamie Collins played pirate captain on the American River. Her favorite word is dily daly.
Danny Cotton cried into orgo textbooks nightly before looking hawt with wilderness project in the woods. Sisyphean be his favorite word.
Deedee Pearce crushed it at the Burlington VT department of Parks and Recreation and lived over a fancy bakery that she could not afford. Her fave word is brik-a-brak.
Forrest Cobb built and bikes while working at Big Shark on the Loop. His fav word is pamplemousse.
Emma Klein led her family through the Swiss alps and slept on the floor all summer. Her favorite word is crevasse.
Any Garbuzov learned about the intricate mechanisms that atoms undergo as she was also taking orgo at WashU this summer. Her fave word is flughafen.
