Louis is a comprehensive public metropolitan research university located in Missouri's most populous and economically important region. UMSL offers 54 bachelor’s degree programs, 37 master’s degree programs, 15 doctoral degree programs and the only professional degree in optometry in Missouri. The university also offers 24 graduate certificate programs and two education specialist programs. UMSL p

rovides exceptional learning experiences and leadership opportunities to a diverse student body through the university's outstanding faculty, ranked programs, innovative research and community partnerships. The success of the university – and its students, faculty and alumni – is inseparable from the success of the St. No other university brings more to bear on the social and economic advancement of the region than UMSL. That relationship was recognized by the Carnegie Foundation when it bestowed the prestigious “Community Engagement Classification” on the university, one of only four such designated universities in Missouri. Originally the home of the Bellerive Country Club, the University of Missouri–St. Louis has maintained the beauty of the original landscape, situated on 350 rolling acres in north St. Natural Bridge Road runs between North Campus and South Campus, which are both dotted with native Missouri trees and a mix of interesting architecture. Over seventy structures account for the more than 3.5 million square feet of building space, including the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center and the Millennium Student Center. Getting to campus is easy for commuter students as the public transportation provider for the St. Louis area, Metro, operates two rail stations at UMSL. Nearly 1,000 students reside in on-campus housing, either at our residence hall or apartment complexes. UMSL is the largest university (by headcount) in the St. Louis area and the third largest university in Missouri. The university achieved record graduation numbers in 2009 by topping 3,000 degrees for the first time. UMSL has continued accreditation status from the Higher Learning Commission without any stipulations, placing UMSL among the top five percent. Our faculty members are consistently recognized for being among the best in the United States in a number of disciplines. UMSL offers students over 120 clubs and organizations covering nearly every interest, from Greek Life to an Accounting Club. Our groups and organizations include social groups, academic clubs, honor societies, special interest groups, political associations and religious groups. Student clubs and organizations are a great way for you to meet fellow students and explore your interests. UMSL’s Office of Student Life is a great place to start. The OSL has everything from leadership opportunities and community service to social events and entertainment. Louis is committed to paying serious attention to individual student learning needs and maintaining the highest academic standards. UMSL uses multiple approaches to facilitate learning, engaging in an ongoing assessment of student learning and improvement of the quality of learning experience. We value diversity among faculty, staff and students, and recognize its essential contribution to campus culture. Different cultural, intellectual, socioeconomic and regional perspectives add substantially to understanding, richness of debate, intellectual inquiry and knowledge development.

Studying abroad can be a transformational experience for students, allowing them to immerse themselves in new cultures and broaden their horizons. But for many students, cost remains a significant barrier to the experience.

A program from the Institute of International Education aims to change that.

The University of Missouri–St. Louis has been selected to receive an IIE American Passport Project grant, which will enable up to 25 Pell-eligible UMSL students to obtain their first U.S. passport, opening the pathway for them to study abroad.

“For many of our students, just getting a passport is the first obstacle of several that they encounter to make a global experience or a study abroad program possible,” said UMSL Study Abroad Manager Maggie Hook, who submitted the grant on behalf of UMSL Global.

The grant will enable up to 25 UMSL students to obtain their first U.S. passport, opening up the path for them to study abroad.

The University of Missouri–St. Louis continues to receive strong support from the St. Louis business community as it grows its School of Engineering.

Ameren Corporation has pledged $1 million to support construction of the Ameren Electrical Engineering Lab, currently being built in the UMSL Science Complex, along with additional funding for scholarships and programming to provide experiential learning opportunities for engineering students. This investment comes at a critical time, as demand for skilled engineers continues to grow across Missouri’s energy, infrastructure and technology sectors.

Leaders from Ameren will also serve on the School of Engineering’s Founding Corporate Council and Engineering Advisory Council, helping shape curriculum and strengthen alignment with industry needs.

The funding supports a new electrical engineering lab, scholarships and hands-on learning experiences.

When she first arrived at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Oyinkansola Inioluwa Abejide was not entirely sure that she was in the right place. About 16 months later, Abejide can declare without hesitation that she found her community.

“As they say, once a Triton, always a Triton,” said Abejide, who recently earned a master’s degree in supply chain analytics from the Ed G. Smith College of Business.

That confidence wasn’t nearly as strong in January 2025.

After arriving in St. Louis unsure of her future, Ini Abejide found mentorship, leadership opportunities and lasting relationships at UMSL

Ariel Biggerstaff loves to see how people light up when they see her designs. Whether it’s an icy Aperol Spritz accompanied by funky typography, an image of bright yellow daffodils peeking out against a serene pink backdrop or a playful green caterpillar wiggling across the frame, her designs for Fond Printed Goods feature bright, bold colors and retro-inspired designs that often stop passersby right in their tracks.

“I hope that it gives them a sense of happiness and just brightens their day a little bit,” Biggerstaff says. “When I’m doing events or pop-ups for Fond, I always love seeing people’s reactions to my work – their facial expressions and how it resonates with that person. I always love to hear, ‘Oh, this would be perfect for so and so,’ or ‘This is perfect for my kid’s room,’ or something like that. It always seems like it makes them so happy, and I love to see that.”

Biggerstaff sells her own greeting cards, prints, stickers and gift wrap and has also collaborated with the Missouri Botanical Garden and Anchovy Book Co.
