We are extremely happy to celebrate another student worker who is graduating this weekend--Madi Teska! Madi has worked at Emerson Library since her freshman year. ๐Ÿค—

We were able to chat with Madi about her time at Webster and ask about her future plans:

๐ŸŒŸ What degree are you earning, and what inspired you to pursue that field of study?
"I am receiving my Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in politics and a paralegal certificate. I have loved history my entire life, so when I wasn't sure what I wanted to do after graduation, I chose a major that I would always enjoy learning more about. After my freshmen year I decided to attend law school, which is where the paralegal certificate comes in."

๐ŸŒŸWhat are your plans after graduation?
"In the fall, I will be beginning law school at St. Louis University, trading Gorloks for Billikens! I don't plan far out, so past that I just hope that I can travel to different countries. I've been to Europe, but I'm really interested in New Zealand and South America, so fingers crossed I get to visit there some day."

๐ŸŒŸWhat will you miss most about Webster University?
"I'll miss the people the most. This is such a welcoming and supportive environment where staff and faculty make you feel seen and important. I really love the friends and connections I've made here."

๐ŸŒŸWhatโ€™s one memory or experience at Webster that stands out to you?
"Definitely would be being an orientation leader. It was so much fun to hang out with the other orientation leaders and Billy Ratz (shout out), and it never really felt like work. I love the friends I made through this and it is genuinely so much fun."

๐ŸŒŸWhat advice would you give to other students who are just starting out?
"Talk to your professors and the staff around you. Everyone at Webster wants you to succeed and will do everything they can to make that happen. And remember that they are humans too, so don't feel intimidated by them."

Gosh, we sure will miss you, Madi! Congratulations!

Please join us in wishing a huge congratulations to our very own student worker Eden Rolves, who is graduating this weekend with a double major!

We were able to ask Eden a few questions about her experience at Webster, and here's what she told us.

๐ŸŒŸ What degree are you earning, and what inspired you to pursue that field of study?
"I am a double major: Media Production and Anthropology and Sociology. I've always been a creative person, and I've been practicing photography since I was in grade school. I decided to major in Media Production so I could get a taste of multiple industries like film, design, photography, and audio. I decided to double major in ANSO after my Introduction to Cultural Anthropology course because I wanted to be able to apply a nuanced understanding of people and society to the media I create."

๐ŸŒŸWhat are your plans after graduation?
"I plan to work in the media industry. In the future I'd like to go back to school for a graduate degree in media or Library and Information Science."

๐ŸŒŸWhat will you miss most about Webster University?
"I will certainly miss the proximity to friends that campus provides. I've made a lot of great connections not only with classmates but also with coworkers and professors."

๐ŸŒŸWhatโ€™s one memory or experience at Webster that stands out to you?
"Conversations with professors are something that I will never forget. Dr. Elsa Fan encouraged me to double major, Professor Zlatko ฤ†osiฤ‡ told me to lean into my activism, Dr. Allison Gorga deepened my passion for the social sciences, and Dr. JB Kwon has advised me through all four years of college. These people have taught me incredible life lessons along the way."

๐ŸŒŸWhat advice would you give to other students who are just starting out?
"Talk to your professors, sit in the front of class, and choose a seat next to someone else sitting alone. Building a support system of teachers, classmates, and new friends will carry you through college. Talk to people outside of your major and stick with the people that make you feel the most inspired and capable."

Best wishes, Eden, we are very proud of you!

โœจFRIDAY FOCUS โœจ
There are only a few days left to view the Art in Rome student art display in the lobby of Emerson Library. This display was borne from a course taught by professors Ryan Gregg and Lindsay Pichaske, which combined studio and art history educational experiences to provide an introduction to Italian ceramics and the broader context of that practice within Ancient and Renaissance Roman culture. The course travelled to Rome over Spring Break, where intensive studio practice combined with on-site investigations of historical sites and objects.

While in Rome, students created their own ceramic pieces in response to historic objects, building a bridge between past and present.

The pieces in the display represent the work students created in the eight-week studio portion of the class, as well as their majolica and terra cotta sculptures created while in Rome.

The pieces are incredibleโ€”donโ€™t miss it!
