"Ben Greenho: From Linguistics to U.S. Foreign Relations"

Ben Greenho, now a Senior Policy Analyst in Immigration policy at Center for American Progress, initially began his education with the intention to major in linguistics or Spanish. However, after taking a class on the history of U.S. foreign relations in the second semester of his freshman year, he developed an interest in studying history on a deeper, academic level.

His advice for current students: "Stay open to opportunities... and be willing to take them when they arise. The critical thinking and communication skills you gained by studying history will help you adapt to these unexpected opportunities, and that adaptability will make you stand out to employers and colleagues alike."

"From History Major to Rare Books Librarian: Angela He’s Path"

This undergraduate alumni Q&A series features Angela He, who graduated from WashU in 2019 with an undergraduate degree in History.

Angela He's path, like many others who study history, was not linear. Her time at WashU studying history inspired her to pivot from pursuing a degree in pre-law to focusing on libraries and special collections. Today, she works in the WashU Medicine Becker Library. She specializes in rare book collections and writes posts on archives and rare books.

"History Major to Historian: Syrus Solo Jin's Story"

We’re taking the time to focus on a few stories from our former alumni who pursued undergraduate degrees in history from WashU.

From Cartoon History of the Universe to the archives of presidential libraries, Syrus Solo Jin (class of 2019), turned a childhood fascination with history into a career. After a double major in History and Political Science, he followed his passion to a PhD at The University of Chicago and is now a faculty member at New York University.
