The Berkeley Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to staff the positions of Firefighter/Paramedic through our FEMA SAFER Grant!

Fire Up St. Louis is currently accepting Instructor Applications for the 2025 event. Fire Up 2025 will take place May 16-18 at Florissant Valley Fire Protection District House 1.

Fire Up STL is seeking both male and female instructors who are interested in teaching females, ages 18-40, basic hands-on skills firefighters use. Instructors must be dedicated to cultivating an empowering and inspiring environment.

Requirements:
🔥Currently a firefighter at a fire department or district in or near St. Louis City/County, St. Charles County/City, Jefferson County, or a surrounding area.
🔥In good standing with the fire department/district you are employed at
🔥Values must align with Fire Up STL's
🔥Deadline to apply is March 18th at 5PM.

We sincerely thank the residents for approving Prop A on August 6th, 2024. The funding from the tax increase will allow us to hire 21 new firefighter paramedics and purchase 2 additional ambulances to serve the community. The first group of new hires were recently celebrated at a swearing-in ceremony at the Monarch Administration building. Welcome to the Monarch family. We wish you a safe and fulfilling career.

The new Monarch Firefighter-Paramedics are as follows:

Aaron Peters, Jacob Marler, Hanna Vineyard, Vincent Mazzola, Andrew Dilliard, Eric Coleman, and Alek Seers.

Andrew Marler and Zachary Heine were hired in November of 2024. They were pinned at this ceremony as well.

⚠️ Pay attention to the color of the stove flame..

Fires increase during cold weather as people use alternative means to hear their homes. It's never a good idea to use your stove or oven to heat your residence.

While cooking please pay attention to the flame.
If the flame is blue, this means that the combustion is effective, as the gas and oxygen mix well.

If the flame is red or orange, this indicates that the combustion is incomplete, which may lead to increased gas consumption, blackening of the pan, delayed heating, and accumulation of dangerous gases.

Therefore, it is necessary to open doors and windows and ensure good ventilation during cooking.

The reasons for incomplete combustion are:

- Blockage of fuel passages and ventilation systems.
- Improper installation of the stove.
- Failure to clean the gas stove regularly to remove rust, soot, scales, and dust.
- Insufficient pressure in the cylinder.

Always use a C/O detector in your home.

Fire Up STL 2025 is upon us! Be sure to save the date!

Ever considered a career in the fire service or not sure what you want to do? This is the perfect opportunity for you! May 16-18th will be an action packed weekend where females, ages 18-40, have the opportunity to gain insight into a career in the fire service and perform hands-on skill firefighter use each day! Participants will be taught by firefighters from all over the St. Louis Area.
