This week, we had an incredible turnout for our Writers Talk Writing event--around 55 attendees in the "real room" and another dozen on Zoom! And it's no surprise, because we got to listen to seasoned, talented, and generous writers Kathleen Riddler (Senior Project Advisor at Evernorth Health Services) and Evie Hemphill (Programs Director at St. Louis BWorks).

Dr. Lauren Terbrock-Elmestad facilitated the conversation, which focused on writing in the workplace. A key theme was that writing is a valued and in-demand practice in all professions; even if you don't think you'll be writing...you'll probably be writing! And, oftentimes, as Kat and Evie shared, that writing will feel connective, human, creative, and fun. Yes, challenging, too, but each has found great joy and meaning in their professional communication, which was inspiring for listeners.

A couple thought-provoking closing words from both of our writers talking writing:

Evie Hemphill: "I find writing pretty hard. I just want to say that even if writing is excruciating, that's not a bad thing. You are creating a record of thought. You are struggling through something because you’re find the hinges between that thought and words. That is worth it."

Kat Riddler: "Writing is your signature. Your thumbprint. It follows you. Then that’s your brand. It speaks for you. Continue to work on it. It will always be a work-in-progress."

We hope to see you at our next Writers Talk Writing conversation in March! Writers Talk Writing: Writing for Change!
