The Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute's Gun Violence and Human Rights Initiative is hosting a Workshop on Gun Violence & Human Rights - Building Momentum on June 29, 2021 at 12-4 pm CT.

The first two sessions will explore the U.S. gun violence crisis, measures currently on the table to address it, and present recent scholarship informing the U.S. policy debate on gun violence and firearm safety. The public is welcome to attend. The final session is a closed expert roundtable that will discuss and develop a variety of concrete strategies to address the human rights impact of the U.S. gun violence crisis.

Today, on December 10th, we commemorate UN Human Rights Day, which celebrates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Last month, as part of the Harris Institute’s 20th Anniversary Celebration, the Institute bestowed its 2020 World Peace Through Law Award upon Patricia Viseur Sellers, Special Advisor for Gender for the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. The World Peace Through Law Award is bestowed upon an individual who, by his or her work and writings, has considerably advanced the rule of law and thereby contributed to world peace. Professor Sellers delivered an exceptional keynote address that shines a light on a way forward for victims of atrocities. The 2020 U.S. Presidential Election will have lasting implications. Join the Harris Institute for a panel discussion on "The Likely Trajectory of Global Governance after the U.S. Elections: A Comve Perspective" on Monday, November 23 @ 9AM CT.
This panel will explore the future of foreign policy and global governance in the wake of the presidential election. Panelists will participate in a roundtable discussion surveying issues including climate change, trade, diplomacy, international peace and justice, participation in international organizations, and pandemic response. The panelists will also consider how relations between the United States and other countries and regions may shift due to a of U.S. leadership.

Twenty years ago tomorrow, what is now the Whitney R. Harris World Law Institute opened its doors as the Washington University Institute for Global Legal Studies. Today, the Institute is a world-renowned center for international and comparative legal research.

If you have not already done so, please register for tomorrow's 20th Anniversary Virtual Gala and World Peace Through Law Award. The event features a keynote address by Awardee Professor Patricia Viseur Sellers, accompanied by a panel discussion. There will also be a short tribute to the late Whitney R.
