Happy Holidays! Although the holidays are full with fun and cheer, traveling can be the WORST. Travels can be filled with traffic and tend to be stressful, expensive, and one big headache; however, I’m here to let you know that TRAVELING to Class IS SIMPLE and STRESS-FREE!
In the MS in Human Resource Management program, all classes are held at Sacred Heart University’s new STAMFORD GRADUATE CENTER (located at 3 Landmark Square
Stamford, CT 06901). What I find great about my grad classes is that they are all on Saturday mornings and/or early afternoons, which is perfect in avoiding rush hour traffic that occurs during the week.
For Those Traveling from Westchester, NY or Connecticut:
I am originally from Yonkers, NY, but I currently live in Bridgeport, CT around the corner from SHU’s Main Campus in Fairfield, CT. From both cities, my commute consists of a 30-35 minute drive on the Merritt Parkway and/or the I-95. Whichever route I take, I almost never hit any traffic, unless there is an accident. Once in Stamford, the SHU’s Stamford Graduate Center is attached to the Stamford Mall right off Atlantic Street with a parking garage located on Broad Street [SHU Students can even park in the parking garage all day for ONLY $3.00!].
For Those Traveling from New York City [Here are a few words from my classmate, Adam Lagosz]:
“From where I live on Upper East Side in NYC, it is only a hop, skip, and a jump to SHU Stamford Graduate Center. I take the Lexington Avenue 4/5 express train one stop to Harlem 125th street (less than 10 min.) from my apartment door. From Harlem 125th, I transfer to the NEW HAVEN LINE METRO NORTH. The great thing about having class on a Saturday is that all trains are OFF-PEAK and ONLY $10 and since Stamford is a connecting station for both Amtrak and Metro North you never have to wait more than 15 min for a train. Both express and local trains run every half hour and it takes about 35-45 minutes to arrive at the Stamford Train Station. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk to the Stamford Graduate Center and my classmates always offer and are willing to give me a ride. If for any reason I did not want to walk, there are always cabs waiting at the station as well as Stamford city buses. My commute is LESS than many peoples coming from other parts of CT. The nice thing about taking the train is that it is reliable, you never get stuck in traffic, and it is also a time to relax before and after class as well as get some reading done!”
Students in my class travel from all around NY, CT, and more. REMEMBER—if you have questions, I have answers! I would love to hear any and all YOUR comments and questions, especially if you would like to know what commutes are like for other students from different areas. Please write to me below!
