**Design Studies Best Paper Award 2021**

We are pleased to announce the winner of the Design Studies Award for the best paper published in 2021: 'Situated emotion and its constructive role in collaborative design: A mixed-method study of experienced designers’ by Xiao Ge, Larry Leifer, and Linlin Shui.

The Design Studies best paper award is made annually, jointly by Elsevier Science and the Design Research Society (DRS). The criteria for the Award, in order of priority, are: contribution to the development of the field of design research, originality of research or scholarship, breadth of relevance, and clarity and style of presentation.

Nominations for the Award are made by the journal Editors and the winner selected by the Editor-in-Chief and the Chair of the DRS.

In recognition of their outstanding contribution to advancing knowledge in the field of design studies the nominated papers have been made available as an open-access Article Collection until March 31, 2023.

DRS2022 is a hybrid event. This means you will be able to fully participate whether in Bilbao in person or online from your preferred location. 👨‍💻 Our aim is to ensure that the presence and participation of people joining online is as valuable and engaging as those joining in person. The majority of events will be live-streamed and uploaded each conference day.

The hybrid platform will host networking sessions, a lounge with music, the conference exhibition with results of the DRS Labs and much more. Online attendees will also be able to participate in selected Fringe events.

Therefore, you can buy your ticket according to the modality you prefer, either in-person or online. 🔗 Check out the different options: drs2022.org/registration

One of our most popular downloads, Jan Auernhammer's paper 'Human-centered AI: The role of Human-centered Design Research in the development of AI', argues that humanistic design research should play a vital role in the pan-disciplinary collaboration with technologists and policymakers to mitigate the impact of AI. It was presented online at Synergy - DRS International Conference in 2020, and you can find the full conference proceedings on the DRS Digital Library! What is the DRS Digital Library? It's an archive and library of publications related to the discipline of design research. Our content goes back to the first DRS conference in 1971 which is archived alongside current research. Find the full library on dl.designresearchsociety.org!
