- Weekly Study Nights
- Engineering and science incentive programs
- Weekly corporate presentations and networking opportunities
- Pre-College Initiative (PCI)

Next up for our E-Board spotlights is Ahmed Ahmed, our Professional Success chair this year! He’s a Junior majoring in Mathematical & Computational Science. He joined SBSE to share his love of engineering with other black people and to have a tight-knit community that he is looking forward to strengthening this year. He was a software engineering intern at Google last summer and even plays the drums! Thanks for your work, Ahmed!

Dwight Moore is next up for our E-Board spotlights. He’s in his second year at Stanford, majors in Computer Science, minors in Mathematics, and is currently serving as our Social Chair. He joined SBSE to find an organization where he feels he belongs in the STEM world. He noticed a lack of diversity in tech and engineering-based companies and was looking to find a community of black engineers who support and encourage one another. He’s looking forward to the NSBE National Conference and interned at Google as part of the Engineering Practicum internship. He goes to the gym and plays board and video games in his free time!

Our next E-Board member is Ashley Lowber, our Outreach Co-Chair! She’s a Junior majoring in Human Biology with a minor in Spanish who joined SBSE to get involved in the black STEM community and to get involved in the outreach and service efforts in the areas surrounding Stanford. She’s excited to coordinate with other STEM/engineering student groups for event planning. She enjoys hanging out with friends and listening to music and interned at Centrillion Biosciences last summer. If you see Ashley around campus, say hi!

Onyi Ozoma, our liaison with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), is next in our E-Board spotlights! He’s in his third year of the Management Science and Engineering major and joined SBSE because he appreciated the weekly connection it gave him with so many other black engineers on campus. This year, he’s excited about getting a ton of people to the NSBE National Convention so they can experience the event and (hopefully) get some jobs! Last summer he worked at J.P. Morgan Chase in New York and he loves listening to podcasts and talking with people in his free time. Thanks Onyi!

Next in our series of E-Board spotlights is Julia Simon, our Co-Chair of Academic Excellence! She’s a sophomore in the Chemical Engineering program who joined SBSE to find other black students in STEM for help navigating the university, choosing a major, and accessing amazing professional opportunities. This year, she’s excited to meet more people and grow our community - which has been one of the best parts of her Stanford career so far. Last summer she worked at Chevron as an Environmental Engineering Intern. In her free time, she plays golf and makes prints on linoleum!

Next up is Celine Escarmant, the head of our Sistas in STEM (SIS) group! She is in her second year here and is majoring in Bioengineering. She joined SBSE to be surrounded by people who look like her in STEM fields because, outside of the org, that community feels nonexistent. Through her role with SIS this year, she’s excited to be surrounded by so many beautiful black womxn who have the same interests as her; it also helps her de-stress! This past summer she spent some time at home, hung out with friends, and got to travel. She even solves Rubik’s cubes in her free time (what can’t she do?). Thank you Celine!

Spotlight: Jadal Williams (Vice President)

For our next E-Board spotlight, we’ll be highlighting out Vice President, Jadal Williams! Jadal is a Junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He joined SBSE to unite the black community to help us succeed, and he’s most excited to organize great events for that community this year. He enjoys rapping in his free time and he interned as a Software Engineer at Facebook this past summer!

Spotlight: Christina Martin-Ebosele (President)

SBSE is kicking off its 2019-20 Executive Board spotlights with our President, Christina Martin-Ebosele! Christina is a Senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering and has been involved with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for 8 years, citing it as a foundational reason for becoming an engineer. This year, she’s most excited to foster an SBSE community and to ensure that everyone within the diaspora interested in STEM is connected to the organization. Last summer, she was a Product Engineer at John Deere and in her free time she loves to dance! Say hi if you see her on campus!
