Stanford Pi Beta Phi

Pi Beta Phi was established in 1867 as the first national Greek organization for women, and was originally founded as a fraternity because the term sorority had not yet been developed. The CA Alpha Chapter here at Stanford is a diverse group of fun, motivated, and passionate young women devoted to academic achievement, leading with values, philanthropic endeavors, and forging friendships that last.

*We Need Your Help!*
Our chapter is currently exploring opportunities to increase financial accessibility for our current and future members as a means of pursuing DEI initiatives within our organization. Financial accessibility, transparency, and responsibility are core goals of our Chapter initiatives and we are eager to work with alumni to formalize such practices.

We are reaching out to gauge your interest in a financial sponsorship program in which members needing financial aid are matched with Pi Beta Phi alumni who will provide financial assistance. This relationship could also take the form of mentorship, though we encourage both our members and participating alumni to engage to the extent they feel comfortable. Multiple alumni are also able to sponsor one member. The aid provided will go toward the member’s financial obligations to the chapter in the form of National and Chapter dues.

The matching process will be confidential and occur through a committee composed of our Vice President of Finance and Housing, Chapter President, and AAC. Members seeking financial aid will need to submit an application which will then be evaluated by the same committee.

This initiative is in its early stages, and thus we welcome your thoughts and feedback, which you can share here: https://forms.gle/n97WDRSjjGZ6YQ3S8

Hey former Pi Phis!
Our chapter has been hosting difficult conversations about the nature of Greek Life and the privilege that we have in our position. To take the next step in our journey of bettering and educating ourselves in diversity and inclusion initiatives, we’re hosting a fundraiser to purchase books that include diverse characters to donate to East Palo Alto pre-, primary, and elementary schools. We recognize that children of color can often have difficulty finding books that represent them, so we wanted to help improve that situation in these schools. We would love your help in making this happen for these kids. Any donation amount would be so appreciated!

To donate, go to this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/friendly-reads-for-kids-in-need-tickets-145993561673

The schools receiving the books:
- KIPP Valiant Community Prep
- East Palo Alto Charter School
- Belle Haven Elementary
- Costaño School of the Arts
- All Five

Help us buy children's books featuring underrepresented identities to donate to East Palo Alto schools

Hello All!

This fall, CA Alpha is proud to be fundraising for Read>Lead>Achieve, Pi Beta Phi’s own philanthropic organization. Read > Lead > Achieve is Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic effort, which inspires a lifelong love of reading that can unlock true potential, creating a more literate and productive society. In June 2017, Pi Beta Phi celebrated the success of our campaign to impact one million lives through Read > Lead > Achieve. We believe reading always has been — and always will be — a powerful step toward a life of enduring impact. For more information about Read > Lead > Achieve and all that it has accomplished please visit https://www.pibetaphifoundation.org/readleadachieve.

We are hosting Arrowspike, a volleyball and spikeball tournament, in order to fundraise for this organization. Stanford students and other community members have the ability to sign up in teams of four to play against their classmates while serving an important cause.

The event will take place at 1 PM on Saturday November 16, 2019. If you would like to make a donation, you can go to https://tinyurl.com/arrow-donate and press “Tickets”, and then choose the “Donation” option. If you would like to register you can go to the same link.

Thank you so much for considering our request!
