Dekas Lab at Stanford University

Huge congratulations to Yuran Zhang, the first Dekas Lab member to defend her PhD thesis!!! Yuran used techniques from microbial ecology to understand subsurface connectivity and fluid flow. Yuran worked between the Dekas Geomicrobiology Lab (Stanford ESS) and the Horne Geothermal Group (Stanford ERE) to accomplish this deeply interdisciplinary work. Hopefully, her efforts will advance the utility of geothermal energy!

Congratulations to our summer student, Natasha Ramos Padilla, for winning Best Poster at the SURGE Research Symposium! And congratulations to Bennett for winning third place (and a hefty cash prize) at the Stanford Microbiome Summit!

The Dekas Lab is looking for an awesome postdoc to join a project characterizing microbial candidate phyla (aka microbial 'dark matter') using metagenomic, microscopic, and isotopic techniques.
