Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - Lambda Phi Chapter

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - Lambda Phi Chapter The Lambda Phi Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity At Mississippi State University. Sinfonia’s chief purpose is to develop Fraternity in music.

At the dawn of the twentieth century an American musician could not advance unless he was European-trained, and music in America was held back by intense rivalry and distrust between musicians and schools of music. In that atmosphere, the nation’s leading musicians founded Sinfonia to promote brotherhood among musicians, and revolutionize the field of music. Since that time Sinfonia has been the r

allying point for musicians to support each other and music in America. Sinfonia upholds the highest standards in music. In every age the forces of commercialism and ego support music of the most common type, but the promotion of the best in musical art relies on those who are devoted to the principles of excellence and artistic integrity. Sinfonia was founded in a post-Enlightenment age when artists had gained new freedoms to create the music of their own inspiration. Amid the opportunities and influences of a growing music industry, Sinfonians stood for quality and sincerity in music. Since 1898 Sinfonia has been the rite of passage through which musicians have dedicated themselves to advancing the best in music. Sinfonia inspires musicians to be better men. Our Founder said “Our business is the making of men,” and the motto for our membership is “the Manly Musician and the Musicianly Man.” We recognize the ancient principle that the only excellent musician is the good man, who gives forth a perfect harmony with the whole of his life. Through a tradition of ritual and symbol, Sinfonia preserves a philosophy of ethics and aestheticism to influence musicians to a higher plane. Sinfonians are devoted to developing character and ideals in ourselves and in our brothers. Sinfonia is a movement for the betterment of mankind. In ancient tradition, the indescribable sensation one feels when deeply moved by music was considered a real and direct experience of transcendent Truth, perceived through the forms of expressiveness, power, and beauty. Sinfonians are heirs to this enduring tradition of Truth in music, and our highest charge is to create music with such inspiration, sincerity, and fervor that it provides this experience of bliss and exaltation. We uphold music, not for the sake of music itself, but to uplift our fellow man. Sinfonians wish to instill in all people an awareness of music’s important role in the enrichment of the human spirit. Sinfonia champions the power of music. Our concept of Fraternity is not limited to sociability or friendship among musicians, but encompasses the Enlightenment ideal known as the universal Brotherhood of Man. Sinfonia seeks to bring the musician to the full realization that service to music is not enough, but that service to mankind should be the essential thing of his life. We believe that musicians have a particular power – and obligation – to aid and bless society. With a charitable spirit and the power of music, we seek to bring Harmony to mankind.

We are excited to announce our gift card raffle fundraiser. We are raising funds for the Bruce Lesley Endowment fund, a scholarship fund formed in honor of the late Dr. Bruce Lesley, a kind-hearted soul that gave his all to his students at MSU. We hope to continue his legacy by developing an endowment fund that will help music students achieve their goals and inspire them to keep spreading music and helping others just as Dr Lesley did.

🎉 Super ΦΜΑ weekend 2023 ‼️

Last weekend was a packed weekend for Lambda Phi! We started with our 3rd annual benefit concert in the new recital hall where the guys really outdid themselves in their performance. Then on Saturday we had our initiation and celebrated 60 years of Lambda Phi at MSU where we reconnected with our alumni. Finally on Sunday, we concluded with a light dinner and officer installation. While this week rings in the closing of the spring semester our guys are hard at work planning the best fall yet - On and ever upward!

🎶Spring 2023 MMM🎵

Last weekend the chapter had the opprotunity to perform at the Claiborne in Starkville as part of our semesterly Mills Music Mission. The wind might have made pictures difficult but the music was superb! It is such a blessed event for our guys to go and spread the power of music to those who need it. Many of these men will cite our visits as transformative to their college experience because it means so much more to go and do for philanthropic endeavors instead of just raising money for them. Thank you as always to The Claiborne for allowing us to come and visit!

Just a little under a month out from our 3rd annual Benefit Concert and Silent Auction! This year we will continue to raise funds for our scholarship endowment in Memorium of Dr. J. Bruce Lesley, a significant sinfonian and choir director throughout the region. More personal to the chapter, he was our faculty advisor for several years and had a lasting impact on our fraternity. This endowment is the least we could do to remember him.

Below is a flyer for the event. We would love to fill out the new recital hall! We are also intending to live-streaming it through our youtube page.
We are currently 1/4 of the way to our goal of $25,000 to fully fund the endowment. It is a lofty goal but we are determined to accomplish it in memory of Dr. Lesley. If you are unable to attend, you can still make a tax-deductible contribution through the foundation at MSU through this link: https://tinyurl.com/BruceLesleyEdowment

Thank you to all who have supported us so far as well as to all of you that will - It makes what we do worthwhile for a worthy cause.

Good morning!
Lambda Phi is excited to announce that we will be hosting our second annual benefit concert this year to raise funds for our Endowment created in memoriam of Dr. J. Bruce Lesley. The concert will be hosted on Friday, April 22nd at the First Presbyterian Church in Starkville, MS at 6pm CDT. We also intend to hold a live stream through our page here for those unable to make it. It will feature performances from several notable faculty members, individual performers of our chapter, and conclude with the Lambda Phi choir. Dr. Lesley was a multi-talented musician, a gifted Professor, a magnanimous pianist and organist, and a very special, unique soul. Also, he was a magical and colorful teacher and conductor. We highly encourage all of you to come out and enjoy our first in-person performance and donate to the endowment through the link provided: https://securelb.imodules.com/s/811/foundation/interior-form.aspx?sid=811&gid=1&pgid=2318&cid=8458&bledit=1&dids=390&appealcode=CF22/CFBRUCELESLEY
