Though he was born years after September 11, 2001, MSU sophomore Bradyn Long carries a deep connection to that date’s national tragedy, shaped by numerous childhood visits to a quiet field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The MSU aerospace engineering major, a 2026 recipient of the Flight 93 LeRoy Homer Jr. Flight Scholarship, is turning his personal history into a lifelong calling, combining his desire to be not only an engineer, but also a pilot.

Congratulations to ECE assistant research professor Dr. Aly Abdalla (PI) and professor Dr. Vuk Marojevic for being awarded an NSF Grant!

This award will support their research on “TRUSST-O-RAN: Trustworthy, Resilient, Unified, and Scalable Security Techniques for Open Radio Access Network.”

The project advances the science of open cellular networks, strengthens the national cybersecurity posture of disaggregated wireless network operations, and provides a foundation for trustworthy and resilient commercial and mission-critical networks of the future.

The outcomes include datasets, adversarial traces, open-source software and training material for reproducible security testing, runtime anomaly detection, and mitigation to accelerate adoption across academia, industry, and government.

Lesley Strawderman (2nd from right) is MSU’s latest William L. Giles Distinguished Professor!!

The William L. Giles Distinguished Professor distinction is one of the highest honors the university can bestow upon a faculty member in recognition of outstanding research, teaching and service. The title is conferred only on an MSU faculty member who has attained national or international recognition.

Strawderman is a professor of industrial and systems engineering, MSU’s International Paper Company Endowed Chair and associate director of the university’s Athlete Engineering Institute. The 2021 Grisham Master Teacher Award recipient and Bagley College of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Teachers inductee has taught 14 different courses to approximately 5,000 students. Her research has brought in more than $25 million for studying human factors in engineering, safety and other topics from organizations including the National Science Foundation, U.S. Army, NASA and other public and private entities. At MSU’s Athlete Engineering Institute, she helps oversee research strategy and development, external stakeholder engagement and personnel management.
