Happy Holidays Phi Sigma Sigma Families,

October and November have been exciting months for our sisterhood. Our members are not only settled into the semester, but preparing to finish up the semester. The chapter has had a semester full of fun, sisterhood, and hardwork. Here are some of the highlights of the last two months:

New Executive Board Appointed
After the application closed, a slating committee selected and appointed sisters to positions. These sisters were chosen to lead the chapter for the next year. Congratulations to the following sisters in their new positions: Archon- Kayleigh Wittman, Vice Archon- Carlie Kreutzer, Bursar- Lindsey Letofsky, Secretary- Mackenzie Weeks, Member-At-Large- Julia Moran, Risk Management Chair- Jenna Rizik, Membership Recruitment Chair- Julia Kokotakis, Panhel, Delegate- Rachel Waldman, Sister Development Chair- Hannah Boodin, Academic Achievement Chairman- Lacey Magulick, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Chairman- Morgan McGuirk, House Manager- Maddie Neulander, Philanthropy Chairman- Sarah Hanks, THON Chairman- Emily Baldwin

Formal
Our Formal Chair, Hannah Sutton, planned two memorable formals for our chapter. Our first formal was at Mad Mex and the second was at Primanti Bros. Our sisters were able to invite dates and indulge in food, dancing, and fun with each other. Hannah also provided a photo booth for our second formal.

THON Dancers
THON is just a few months away and our THON committee has been busy preparing. There have been countless fundraisers including Playa Bowls, Weirdoughs, Shakesmart, and more. They have also been making sure our families are feeling our support by sending the Fournier family to an Eagles game. In addition to all of these efforts, our chapter had to select our three dancers to represent us at THON 2022. Liz Werner, Hannah Venturini, and Kaitlyn Mincin were elected to spend 46 hours representing Phi Sigma Sigma.

Goat Yoga
Our Sisterhood and Health and Wellness Chairs came together to put on a goat yoga event at Nittany Meadow Farm. Our sisters were led through a yoga session with baby goats jumping around. This event gave us lots of laughs and memories.

Homecoming
This year our chapter and our partners were assigned the theme Monopoly. We spent hours pomping for a Monopoly themed float under the direction of our Homecoming Chairs Aliana Rivoira and Abby Frantz. Our sisters participated in Homecoming events all week like the Homecoming Parade, shirt tie-dying shirts, and signing banners.

F45
Our Health and Wellness Chair and THON Chair produced a F45 workout that benefitted THON for our chapter. Sisters came and were led through a 45 minute workout. They were able to spend time together and get a great strength workout in cheering each other on the entire way.

We are so excited to see what the rest of the semester brings for our sisters and the chapter as a whole. As always, we thank our parents and families for their continued support of our sisters throughout their collegiate journey and hope you have a great holiday season with your daughter.

Hello All Phi Sigma Sigma Beta Eta Family Members,

The sisters of the Phi Sigma Sigma Beta Eta chapter are so excited to be back on campus and enjoying the Phi Sigma Sigma house altogether. With a more normal semester, we have been able to have events and more engagement.

House move in

Moving in this year was a little different with masks, but having the house at maximum capacity made the process more exciting. Times were sent out, so organization was ensured throughout the process and made things easier for all sisters moving in. After sisters finished moving in, they were able to help each other get settled into their new rooms. Since moving in, there has been no shortage of fun and bonding with sisters.

Sisterhood events

Our Sisterhood Chairs, Aliana Rivoira and Morgan Bowings have been working hard to put on sisterhood events for the chapter. These events are designed to bring the chapter together with a fun activity where sisters can socialize and participate in different activities. This month they have put on a trivia night, a movie night where sisters watched “Legally Blonde” and have a weekly “Bachelor in Paradise” viewing in the Phi Sigma Sigma house living room.

Health and wellness

Since beginning the school year, our Health and Wellness Chair, Jamie Wolf, has been putting on events for our chapter. Jamie was able to lead a workout in front of the Phi Sigma Sigma house for sisters to get a quick sweat together. She also hosted a healthy dinner where sisters joined together to make a meal and have dinner together.

Scholarship

With the house being open, our Scholarship Chair, Samantha Grecco, has been able to put on study hours for sisters once a week at the house. This has given sisters a designated time to come to the house where there is a guaranteed environment to study and other sisters to study with. Samantha was also able to recognize every sister who made the Dean’s List last semester at chapter and give them a gift for their achievement.

Gamedays

Penn State Football is back which means gameday bagels at the Phi Sigma Sigma house and tailgating with our sisters. We have been able to tailgate and cheer on Penn State Football in Beaver Stadium together for the first time in a year and a half.

THON

Although THON weekend is not until February, the fundraising and support efforts are year-long. Our THON team has been working hard to put on fundraisers and events. So far, we have had a sweatshirt sale featuring sweatshirts designed by Abby Frantz, a Mario Kart tournament with our THON partner, letter writing to our two THON families, and much more. The donation window is also now open so ask your Phi Sigma Sigma member for their donor drive link or donate to the Phi Sigma Sigma chapter page: https://donate.thon.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.event&eventID=2621

We are so happy that we have been able to begin the semester with our sisters and cannot wait to have more events in the coming months. Stay tuned for what is to come!

It has been a busy semester in the Beta Eta chapter. We started the semester with recruitment and welcomed an amazing and unique group of new sisters that are now initiated as the Kappa pledge class. As a chapter, we have had lots of things to celebrate like filling the house and reaching a new record for THON fundraising. Below are our chapter highlights from January to March.

Recruitment and Bid Day

Our sisters all came together and worked tirelessly for two weeks to recruit our new member class via Zoom. We are so thankful for Jacqueline Metz, our recruitment chair and her team for making recruitment so successful and fun. On bid day, we welcomed almost 70 new sisters into the chapter cloud nine style on Zoom. We cannot wait to see how the new members add to the walls of our pyramid.

Filling The House

The Phi Sigma Sigma house is officially full for the next school year. The girls living in the house will get to enjoy getting to live with their sisters, chef made food, a cleaning service, and lots of great events. Sarah Purrington, the current house manager, worked hard to fill all the spots and continues to make sure that all members have the best experience in the house. So, a big congratulations to Sarah!

THON

Phi Sigma Sigma partnered with Alpha Gamma Rho and made chapter history during THON 2021 when we cracked the top ten fundraisers for all of greek life! Together we were able to raise $108,047.01 all for the kids! Our dancers, Kat Maraday, Alexa Mandel, and Kelly Hyland powered through and participated remotely during the forty-six hour, no standing, no sitting, dance marathon. Our amazing THON chairs lead by Liz Werner guided the chapter throughout the entire THON process by keeping everyone engaged and constantly came up with new ways to fundraise during these uncertain times. As a chapter we could not be prouder of our dancers, THON chairs, and all of the efforts made by all of the Phi Sig sisters to raise a record amount of money for our families, the Bertrams and Fourniers!

Big/Little

After two weeks of the Iota pledge class going on dates with the Kappa pledge class, the sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma are thrilled to finally have their big-little pairings. For years, big-little has been a sacred tradition in our sisterhood. It is an opportunity for the newest girls in Phi Sigma Sigma to bond with the older members and join a Phi Sig family. After the pairings were complete, the “bigs” took three days to decorate and surprise their “littles” with decorations, gifts and goodies!

Initiation

On March 21st we welcomed our fully initiated Kappa pledge class! The girls came together over a zoom call led by our President Mia Hurdle. Although not able to meet in person, the chapter came together on Zoom to welcome all sixty-nine Kappa’s to the Beta Eta Chapter of Phi Sig! Even though recruitment and the new member process did not look normal for the Kappa’s we cannot wait to finally be able to all come together in person and properly welcome our new sisters of PC’21!

Family Event

Get ready for Phi Sigma Sigma’s first virtual game night! Our Family Relations committee has been working hard to plan a fun and Covid-friendly event for our friends and family to enjoy! On Thursday, April 8th at 6:30 pm, we will be hosting Phi Sig Jeopardy featuring Phi Sig, Penn State, and Greek Life categories. Come join us with your daughter and give it your best shot for the chance to win a prize! Here is the RSVP form: https://forms.gle/AXB73DiT1G9fNSdH8
