Happy Labor Day from SITE!

As we take a moment to recognize the hard work and contributions of workers across our communities, we also want to celebrate the faculty, instructors and staff who dedicate their time and energy to supporting students and creating meaningful learning experiences. Congratulations to the 46 Penn State faculty members and faculty teams selected as the first recipients of the AI Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning’s Instructional Innovation Grants! 🎉 These grants will support innovative projects exploring thoughtful ways to integrate generative AI into teaching and learning during the 2026–27 academic year.

From small-scale classroom experiments to large-scale course and program transformations, these faculty-led projects represent a wide range of disciplines, campuses and approaches to supporting student learning. The work will explore areas including AI literacy, feedback, assessment, simulations, student engagement and more as faculty examine how AI can be used thoughtfully and responsibly in educational settings.

Congratulations to all of the grant recipients! We look forward to seeing the impact of these innovative projects and the lessons they will bring to teaching and learning across Penn State. 👏

Co-sponsored by the AI Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning and SITE, the program supports faculty leaders as they help departments, colleges, and campuses thoughtfully explore the opportunities and challenges AI presents for teaching and learning.

There was a familiar sight outside our Ag Admin Building yesterday: Dr. Noel Habashy, associate teaching professor and coordinator of our college’s International Agriculture minor, sitting with a simple sign that says:

“Ask a Professor Anything.”

No appointment necessary. No question too random.

For the past few years, whenever his schedule allows, Noel has spent the lunch hour making himself available to students, and the questions have covered everything. From study tips and directions to campus buildings to his football predictions, students know they can stop by, ask a question, and have a conversation.

It’s a simple idea, but it says something wonderful about the kind of professor Noel is: approachable, curious, and always willing to make time for students.

This free, non-credit, self-directed, and entirely asynchronous course explores the research and rationale behind designing learning experiences with UDL. Participants will examine real-world UDL applications and reflect on ways to incorporate these principles into their own instructional practices.

Interested in making your teaching and learning experiences more accessible and inclusive? 📚

The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Provost Endorsement is a partnership between SITE and World Campus Online Faculty Development (WCOFD). Participants begin with OL 3600: Universal Design for Learning, a self-guided course exploring the research and application of UDL.

After completing OL 3600, participants can continue their learning through Teach to Reach with UDL, a four-week, instructor-led course offered by SITE. Complete both courses within one year to earn the Provost Endorsement!
