This week’s is Deshawn Hopkins, a freshman majoring in Social Science Education.

At A-State, Deshawn is involved in Chess Club and Anime Club. A fun fact about Deshawn is that he knows how to juggle and can solve a Rubik’s Cube in under a minute!

When asked about his favorite part of being a CLAC student, Deshawn shared that his favorite part is the community and the people within it.

Deshawn’s favorite place to eat on campus is Einstein Bros, where he enjoys a caramel iced shake. One song that is always on his playlist is Good Morning by Kanye West. Around Jonesboro, you can often find him walking around Walmart or thrifting.

This week’s spotlight is Rachel Boillot, Assistant Professor of Photography.

Rachel is a lens-based artist whose work explores place and memory in the American South. Currently based in the Delta region, she teaches photography in the Art and Design department at A-State, where she brings both creative practice and regional perspective into the classroom.

This week’s is Cristal Martinez, a junior majoring in Theatre with an emphasis in Musical Theatre.

At A-State, Cristal is involved in Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha Inc., Alpha Psi Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Scarlet Voices, and the Honors College. A fun fact about Cristal is that most of her closet is thrifted, and she completes all of the alterations herself!

When asked about her favorite part of being a CLAC student, Cristal shared that even though most of her classes are in the Theatre Department, she has built connections with professors and students across many different areas of CLAC. She loves seeing different departments collaborate and create something special together, and those experiences have motivated her to continue exploring her creativity as an artist.

Cristal’s favorite place to eat on campus is Chick-fil-A, where she always gets the mac and cheese. One song that is always on her playlist is Purple Sun by Cannons. Around Jonesboro, you can often find her grabbing a snack at Viva Tropicana with friends.

This week’s spotlight is Lydia Dildilian, Associate Professor of Painting.

Lydia earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and her MFA in Painting from the University of Florida. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and internationally in Italy, Korea, England, and China, with 16 solo exhibitions and more than 50 group and juried shows.

Her work has received multiple exhibition awards and institutional grants and has been featured in publications including New American Painters, Studio Break, and Dovetail Magazine.

At A-State, Lydia leads the Painting program and teaches painting, drawing, and design foundations. Through her creative practice, she explores American identity, socioeconomic structures, and the nuances of motherhood through layered paintings, collages, and installations.

This week’s spotlight is Nicole "Nikki" Arnell, Professor of Graphic Design.

Nikki began her career in advertising after earning her BA from Indiana University, where she applied her creative problem-solving skills to both local projects and national campaigns for major brands. A teaching opportunity later inspired her transition into academia, leading her to pursue an MFA at Colorado State University.

Her work explores a hybrid of traditional fine arts and modern technologies, continuing to examine the many facets of visual communication and expression. Since joining A-State in 2010, Nikki has become a tenured professor, presenting her research at international conferences, publishing in academic journals, and continuing her design practice.

This week’s is Micahya Brown, a freshman majoring in Music Education.

At A-State, Micahya is involved as a Welcome Ambassador, a member of Sister 2 Sister, a Black Student Association pageant contestant, the American Advertising Federation social media chair, and an Admissions social media ambassador. A fun fact about Micahya is that she loves organizing!

When asked about her favorite part of being a CLAC student, Micahya shared that she enjoys all of the opportunities and access she receives.

Micahya’s favorite place to eat on campus is Chick-fil-A, where she orders an 8-count grilled nugget, a large fry, and a Hi C. One song that is always on her playlist is Good Days by SZA. Around Jonesboro, you can often find her out getting a sweet treat. Her current obsession is silver jewelry.

This week’s spotlight is Leslie Parker, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design.

Leslie earned her BFA in Graphic Design from A-State and her MFA in Graphic Design from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Before joining the faculty, she worked professionally as a Creative Director and later founded her own design and consulting firm. She now brings that industry experience into the classroom, supporting students as they develop their creative and professional skills.

At A-State, Leslie also serves as the faculty advisor for AAF A-State, the university’s design focused student organization. Established in September 2025, AAF A-State is already making an impact across campus. The organization hosts skill building workshops, connects students with industry professionals, and creates opportunities for leadership and competition within the advertising and design field.

We are proud to highlight Leslie and celebrate the leadership and creativity she brings to the College of Liberal Arts and Communication!
