Congratulations to Arkansas State University Nurse Anesthesia Cohort 3! 🎓✨

The first week of May marked the end of years of sacrifice, hard work, long nights, and dedication and the beginning of an incredible career as CRNAs. This class has truly been inspiring to watch, and the future of anesthesia is brighter because of each of you.

Even more exciting, nearly one-third of the class has already passed boards and officially entered the profession. Such an amazing accomplishment and a true reflection of the excellence within this cohort.

Wishing you all nothing but success, happiness, and fulfillment in this next chapter. You earned every bit of this moment. ❤️🖤

Annual ARANA Meeting of 2026! 💉

This year, students attended the Spring ARANA Conference in Little Rock to network and learn more about the anesthesia profession.

Senior SRNAs presented their DNP projects over the following topics:
- Impact of Evidence-Based Education on the Effects of Excessive Screen Time Among SRNAs
- Evaluating The Impact of Evidence-Based Education on the Utilization of Preoperative Gastric Ultrasound for Patients on GLP-1 Agonist
- Educating Anesthesia Providers Regarding Evidence-Based Practice Interventions to Decrease Postoperative Delirium in the Geriatric Population

We also participated in the second annual quiz bowl! Students battled amongst each other, trialing through questions to ultimately go up against current CRNAs! Congratulations to students of UAMS for winning this year! 🏆

We’d like thank the sponsors of the event:
- Gratus Wealth Management
- St. Bernard’s Medical Center

✨ Congratulations, Dr. Hammon! ✨

We are incredibly proud of our very own Dr. L. Todd Hammon on successfully defending his dissertation and earning his PhD 🎓

While serving as full-time faculty and program director, he continued to pour into his students and this program, all while reaching this major academic milestone. His work ethic, leadership, and commitment to excellence truly set the tone for A-State CRNA.

Thank you for doing it all and for setting the standard for what it means to lead and serve. A-State CRNA program is incredibly lucky to have you.

✨ Student Spotlight ✨

We love highlighting our incredible SRNAs who embodies the dedication, compassion, and excellence of the Arkansas State University Nurse Anesthesia Program.

🩺 Meet Bree Phillips — Senior, Cohort 3

“I’m originally from Colorado. My favorite area of anesthesia is cardiac 🫀. I love nurse anesthesia because it’s the perfect balance of advanced practice and the care we love to provide our patients.

An interesting fact about me: I am the only medical professional in my entire family.

The conference was hosted by US Anesthesia Partners in Austin, TX. Students from programs across the country had the opportunity to learn more about the business, legal, and leadership sides of anesthesia. It was wonderful to interact with so many great peers and add to our knowledge of the nurse anesthesia profession. I would recommend anyone to attend this conference. It was a great experience!”

✨Student Spotlight✨

Two of our seniors (Griffin and Katie) from Cohort 3 had the amazing opportunity to go on a mission trip in Honduras with an anesthesia team from Little Rock, AR. Here’s what they had to say about this incredible experience:

“During our anesthesia mission in Catacamas, Honduras, we had the opportunity to work alongside a CRNA and an anesthesiologist. Over the course of five days, our small OR team managed anesthesia care for about 50 cases across two operating rooms. The experience was both intense and rewarding, as it required adaptability, teamwork, and resourcefulness in a limited-resource setting. Collaborating closely with the whole team allowed us to expand clinical skills, gain confidence in independent decision-making, and contribute meaningfully to safe, compassionate care for patients who otherwise might not have had access to surgery.”

This weekend, Arkansas State University’s CRNA Cohort 4 had the incredible opportunity to practice regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) with Maverick Medical Education.

The experience truly brought classroom concepts to life. It allowed us to see anatomy, practice ultrasound guidance, and perform regional techniques in a realistic, hands-on setting. Opportunities like this help us build the confidence and skill set we’ll carry into clinical practice.

A huge thank you to Maverick Medical Education, volunteer models and instructors who made this possible. We’re so grateful for your time, teaching, and dedication to advancing nurse anesthesia education!
