Every spring, Beta Alpha Psi’s Induction Ceremony serves as one of the organization’s most meaningful traditions — and this year was no exception. On April 27, sixteen new members were formally welcomed into the honor society at the University’s golf course banquet room. All inductees earned their places through demonstrated academic achievement, professional commitment, and a genuine dedication to the values that Beta Alpha Psi stands for.

With fellow members and faculty members gathered to mark the occasion—and catering provided by the Painted Chef—the ceremony carried the weight of something larger than a single event. For the inductees, it was the culmination of hard work and the formal beginning of lifelong membership in one of the most respected honor societies in accounting, finance, and information systems. The evening also celebrated individual excellence, with Samuel Audu and Lindsey Warren earning the Most Outstanding Member Award in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the organization.

For Beta Alpha Psi, the night was a reaffirmation of its mission—to recognize excellence and cultivate the next generation of professionals who will lead with integrity and purpose. A heartfelt thank you to all the faculty members who attended and showed their support, and a special recognition to Debbie Hilton, Parker College event coordinator, for her continued dedication and everything she does to make BAP thrive.

Finance Association Concludes Spring Semester Speaker Series
by Joshua Frederick and Axel Grossmann

On Wednesday, April 15, the Finance Association hosted members of Parker College’s
Young Alumni Board as the final event of its spring semester guest speaker series. In a panel session, David Attaway (ACCT, 2009; MAcc, 2010), audit director for Symphona; Trent Doty (LOG, 2013), senior financial advisor for Wells Fargo; Jacqueline Jedlicka (ACCT & MGMT, 2019), audit manager for Symphona; and Tate Robins (MKTG & LOGT, 2019; MBA, 2025), materials manager for Nordson Corporation, covered several topics with the students in attendance.

The discussion started with an emphasis on staying flexible when evaluating job
opportunities and continued with a range of related topics, including how to approach job applications and navigate job offers, considering factors such as benefits and keeping a long-term perspective on career growth and work-life balance, the importance of certifications, double majors, and graduate degrees, as well as the challenges of transitioning from college to a professional career.

The discussion then pivoted to financial advising, particularly the relationship-building aspect of the industry. The speakers emphasized the importance of empathy, patience, and clear communication when working with clients, especially those with limited financial knowledge. They highlighted that building trust, maintaining transparency, and focusing on education are key to helping clients understand long-term financial goals and make informed decisions.

The panel concluded with advice on how to distinguish oneself during interviews
focusing on personal qualities and experiences that extend beyond one’s résumé or
academic credentials. While technical qualifications may secure an interview,
candidates must demonstrate authenticity, personality, and strong interpersonal skills to leave a lasting impression.

IS&A Faculty Members’ Paper Named “Best Paper Finalist”

On April 19, Xihui “Paul” Zhang, Ph.D., editor-in-chief, of the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE), notified Manouchehr Tabatabaei, Ph.D., associate professor of information systems & analytics; Nancy Jacobs, title/affiliation; and Thomas L. Case, Ph.D., professor emeritus of information systems & analytics, that their paper, “Toward a Framework for Understanding Information Systems Degree Program Sustainability,” has been named “Best Paper Finalist.” They will receive commemorative plaques at the Fall 2026 Information Systems & Computing Academic Professionals (ISCAP) conference in Asheville, NC.

JISE annually awards up to three contributions with the titles “Best Paper,” “Best Paper Finalist,” and “Best Paper Honorable Mention.” The “Best Paper” award goes to the most outstanding manuscript published in that year’s journal; “Best Paper Finalist” and “Best Paper Honorable Mention” awards honor the two runners-up to the most outstanding manuscript. Every manuscript published in the journal is eligible for these awards. Each year, deliberation occurs in late winter and early spring with the winners announced in spring. Each author of all three award papers receives a plaque presented at the following ISCAP Conference in the fall. Selection criteria include the papers’ contributions to IS pedagogy theory and practice in the IS classroom, the uniqueness/originality of ideas, and the quality of writing.

Congratulations Manouchehr, Nancy, and Tom!
