Throwback Thursday is taking a bit of a turn this week. We have EXCITING news to share with our alumni. Katy Nininger, class of 2013 has accepted the position of Director of Alumni Relations. She began her new position yesterday, July 1, 2026.

Katy was raised on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, as the daughter of missionary teachers. Her journey has been one of God’s faithful direction which led her to Sterling College as a student-athlete in 2009.

She was a biology major and played basketball for Coach Lonnie Kruse for four years, graduating in 2013. She went on to earn a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Colorado Christian University.

She spent 12 years serving in Christian education as a teacher, coach, and administrator before returning to SC in 2025 as the Associate Librarian in Mabee Library.

Katy says of her new role, “I have the privilege of serving as Director of Alumni Relations, where I seek to foster meaningful connections with alumni while advancing the mission of Sterling College. Throughout every unexpected transition, Proverbs 16:9 has remained true: ‘A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.’ I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Sterling College, its alumni, and ultimately Christ through this role.”

Please join me in congratulating and praying for Katy as she begins this new chapter. Her office is located in Cooper Hall, 2nd floor.

This week is more about the here and now as opposed to the Throwback theme. Sterling College alumni and friends are some of the best people in the world. It is an absolute joy meeting with them in my travels. This week we see alumni who are making a difference in their corner of the world; whether that is in retirement, in their church, in their communitiy, in their family, or in their workplace.

This week it is more about the "now" than the throwback. Sterling College currently has two mission teams in the field in Egypt and Romania and one in route to Thailand as this is being posted. These teams consist of students and sponsors that will serve in these three countries over the next few weeks. SC has a rich heritage of sending students into the mission field, both domestically and internationally. Please pray for the three teams that are all overseas serving people and the Lord.

The Sterling College Class of 2026 will walk across the stage on May 9th to receive their college diplomas. What a day of celebration it will be! Including the very first and only graduate, Essington H. Lees, on June 7, 1892, SC has seen 134 graduating classes and 133 graduation ceremonies through the years. Below are memories from just a few of them.
