OSU School of Architecture

OSU School of Architecture The School of Architecture (SoA) enjoys the full benefits of its unique combination of programs in Architecture (ARCH) and Architectural Engineering (AE).

Students entering the SoA will experience shared goals, values, and coursework between the programs. There are seventeen full-time professors on the teaching faculty, and every student will work with every faculty member in at least two courses over their student career. Architecture Students receive instruction in design studios, architecture history and theory courses, project management and bus

iness practice classes, and technical courses involving structural and environmental control systems. This well-rounded approach provides graduates with a special understanding of the design process and the profession of architecture. Students pursuing a degree in Architectural Engineering undertake more architectural design studios and advanced technical coursework than in any other Architecture Engineering program nationwide. Graduates of both the ARCH and AE programs enter the profession with a full appreciation of the complexities and cooperation required in the creation of architecture. The SoA also offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Architectural Design Studies degree. Students choose from three concentrations: Design Management and Leadership, Design Thinking and Communication, and Design, Culture, and Urban Studies. This degree prepares graduates for a diverse range of design-related fields in the industry of architecture and beyond. Ready to learn more? Reach out, we'd love to hear from you!

OSU School of Architecture Alumnus Rand Elliott, FAIA and his firm Rand Elliott Architects receive a Metamorphosis design award from Retrofit Magazine for their design of Engineering South for the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology on OSU's Stillwater campus. Through the design, Elliott retains and amplifies the building’s history while writing a new chapter with bold additions. Light is used to create and shape meaningful experience for those that visit to work and learn. The building is a tangible symbol of the interdisciplinary nature of CEAT as it artfully expresses the integration of architecture, technology, and engineering.

OSU School of Architecture graduate Mallory Buckley was recently recognized in Building Design and Construction's 2025 40 Under 40 Class. The recognition celebrates architecture, engineering, and construction leaders from across the United States. Buckley recently shared how her time at OSU shaped her future career.

"OSU gave me both the foundation and the perspective to grow. Even though not everything I learned in class applies directly to what I do today, engineering taught me how to think critically, and architecture taught me how to visualize in 3D space. Together, those skills are powerful in the building envelope world, where problem-solving and spatial understanding are everything. Add in the leadership experiences—like serving as VP of Publications for CEAT Student Council and being a homecoming director for Pi Beta Phi—and I left OSU with both technical grounding and a passion for leading teams."

Today the school hosted members of our Professional Advisory Committee for our annual meeting.

Members heard updates about the school, our upcoming spring 2026 NAAB accreditation visit, and heard from faculty member, Christina McCoy, about her research for an upcoming book.

Before lunch, we took a break and headed over to the stadium for a look at the Boone Pickens Legacy Experience (if you haven’t been, you should go!).

Student leaders were also able to interact with PAC members during lunch and then before wrapping up, the professionals headed upstairs to check out what was going on in studio.

300 object-cube models by ARCH 2116: Architecture Studio II are exhibited on the second floor of the CEAT Endeavor Lab!

This semester Studio II is exploring the design and the qualities of the object as a starting point for generating architectural ideas and spaces. All 100 students in the class used methods of model-making, drawing, diagramming and architectural analysis to this impressive set of three-hundred 3”x3” object-cubes.

The students were able to use lab room 110 in Endeavor for this project. We would like to thank Hugo Ferrer, Joe Conner, Shelley Potter, and David Horton for helping us coordinate this collaboration between the School of Architecture and the use of the lab!

ARCH 2116 Teaching Faculty: Dr. Jared Macken (Associate Professor/studio coordinator), Bailey Brown (Assistant Professor), Christina McCoy (Associate Professor), Sarah Ra(Associate Professor), Holly Sandberg (Visiting Lecturer), Anna Bazhaw-Hyscher (Visiting Lecturer)

Earlier this week, we kicked off the school year with something brand new — our very first Drafting Day! 🎉

We had a blast welcoming our incoming freshmen as they got the inside scoop on student life, chatted with current students and faculty, explored our amazing student orgs, and got a behind-the-scenes tour of the architecture building (yes, the secret spots too 👀).

We’re thrilled to have so many new faces joining the SoA family — and even more excited that Drafting Day is officially a new tradition in the making.

Save the date! The SoA Fall Lecture Series will kick off September 10 with Kim Yao of Architecture Research Office.

The research work of Associate Professor Jay Yowell was recently published in a new book, ‘Transect of Coexistence: Inquiry into Nature, Art, and Habitat’ by Ilaria Mazzoleni (editor). His research was completed at the Nature, Art & Habitat Residency (NAHR) in the Taleggio Valley in northern Italy. The theme during his residency was The Woods and his research explored how tree bark found in the woods of the Taleggio Valley can serve as an inspiration for improving architectural building envelopes in the region.

‘This book has evolved in response to the concepts and methods that have characterized the essence and logic of a residency that is an eco-laboratory of multidisciplinary practice.’
