Remember when the Herb Empire was just getting started? 🌿

Just six months ago, this space was just being built and was full of potential. Today, it’s thriving with healthy, established herbs showing just how quickly things can grow with the right care, time and attention.

Comparing then-and-now photos really highlights the progress and the work that’s gone into bringing this space to life. From bare beginnings to a productive, living system, it’s been exciting to watch it take shape!

There’s always something new to learn at the farm! 🚜🌱

This summer, student worker Mark has been gaining hands-on experience in the field, including learning how to operate one of our large John Deere tractors. Opportunities like these help students build practical skills and confidence while supporting the day-to-day work that keeps the farm running.

We’re excited to see our student workers continue growing through experiences like this!

It was a pleasure sharing more about our mission, research and production efforts while connecting with a group that is equally passionate about horticulture, education and serving their communities. Opportunities like these allow us to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and continue growing together.

Thank you to the Washington County Master Gardeners for spending time with us at the farm! 🌾

Can you spot the queen bee? 👑🐝

In honor of World Bee Day, we’re highlighting a recent hive inspection where Professor Courtney Bir and graduate student Rebekah Harmon searched for queen cells, which are special cells bees create when preparing to raise a new queen. Checking for queen cells helps monitor hive health, colony behavior and potential swarming activity.

Pollinators play a vital role in agriculture and ecosystems, and days like today are a great reminder of just how important bees are. 🌼🍯

Another week, another harvest! Last Monday, our team brought in another round of fresh cool-season crops from the field.

These ongoing harvests reflect the hard work happening behind the scenes through research, crop management and hands-on learning experiences throughout the season, while also helping provide fresh produce for the community.

We’re excited to continue watching the fields produce and grow!🌱

Fresh from the field! 🌱

Shelby Mendoza recently completed an impressive kohlrabi harvest from our Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) field, totaling 352.2 pounds across 413 plants.

This cash crop followed a fall cover crop harvest where different cover crop mixtures are being tested to evaluate growth performance, w**d suppression and nutrient availability for the subsequent cash crop. Research like this helps us better understand sustainable production practices and ways to support stronger future harvests.

We’re excited to continue seeing the impact of this work in the field! Great job, Shelby!🥬🌾

We loved having some of Oakdale Public School's 7th grade students back out at the Student Farm this spring 🌱

Students rotated through hands-on stations learning about crops, soil and how food moves from harvest to storage. One of their favorite parts was getting to help harvest again this year!

From the rinsing station to equipment demos, they got a full look at life on the farm. We hope to see you again soon!

Recently, the Student Farm hosted Leadership Oklahoma Class 38 for a visit out in the fields.

We enjoyed sharing how the farm works and what goes into growing, harvesting and giving back through this space.

Thank you to Leadership Oklahoma Class 38 and the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce for joining us. We were glad to have you out here!

ICYMI, we recently got to welcome Governor Kevin Stitt to the OSU Student Farm as part of his 77 County Tour!

He spent last Friday morning with us touring the farm, tasting fresh produce and learning more about how we partner with Our Daily Bread Stillwater to provide resources at no cost to the community.

We loved the chance to showcase the work happening here in Payne County and share the impact of hands-on learning, production agriculture and community partnerships right here on the farm!
