"In 2022, California passed SB 54, the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act. The law, the only one of its kind in the nation, was intended to shift the financial and operational burden of managing single-use plastic packaging to manufacturers instead of local governments and taxpayers. It’s one of a set of rules, including SB1383, that govern local waste and recycling systems."

Every spring, students in Delta College’s Multimedia Storytelling class produce stories focusing on the people and places of the region. As we head into the summer break, The Collegian is highlighting the results from Spring 2026. From MCOM 10 student Ruan Passos:

Delta College’s food pantry is helping hundreds of students each week stay focused on school by easing the stress of food insecurity. What started small is now a vital resource for many, offering not just groceries, but stability and support.
