Emily is part of SOECSโs Computer Science program & is working as a Cybersecurity Analyst Intern for the City of Stockton IT department๐คฉ โIn my role, I investigate & address emails reported as phishing to ensure they are properly mitigated. I monitor network traffic & alerts to quickly identify & respond to security incidents, using endpoint protection tools to maintain network security. Additionally, I develop & deliver cybersecurity training for employees & prepare detailed technical reports on security incidents.โ ๐
When asked how SOECS has helped prepare her for this opportunity, Emily stated: โIn my Computer Systems & Networks class, I gained a good understanding of network architecture & protocols, which was relevant when I had to monitor network traffic & manage security tools such as firewalls and other systems. Additionally, the System Administration & Security course provided me with foundational knowledge on managing network security & responding to incidents, which helped when I encountered & security vulnerabilities in my co-op role.โ
