We put together a promotional video to talk about the harm prescription pain pills and he**in overdoses are having on the Long Island community.

We also invite you to Stony Brook University's Opioid Epidemic forum, which will take place this Saturday (4pm) at the Wang Center Theater and focus on potential solutions.

Come join us, New York State Senators John J. Flanagan, Kenneth P. LaValle and a number of other experts to: learn about the epidemic, receive Narcan (the opioid overdose antidote) training, and get rid of your excess prescription pain pills through Suffolk County's "Shed The Meds" program. As 4 out of 5 he**in users start from misusing pain pills, we would like as many people to participate as possible. Spread the word!

Don't forget to RSVP at the link provided: http://www.eventbrite.com/o/sbu-spade-11204850734

We hope to see you there.

"..the place of scientific evidence in policy making is neither straightforward nor guaranteed..."

Very insightful (and short) article about where scientific evidence is often placed in policy matters. Definitely worth a read.

Scientists are often perplexed by the apparent failure of their evidence to affect policy. Despite years of accumulated evidence for an-thropogenic climate change, policy-makers have been slow to react. The public health community is frustrated that few countries have adopted effective measures to a...
