The History Book Nook went on the road 📚✨inn

History isn’t always found in textbooks—sometimes it’s right in your backyard. Our Book Nookers traveled to Center Moriches by horse and carriage to visit the Terry-Ketcham Inn, a historic settlement site that once served as a blacksmith shop, social hub, meeting house, and stagecoach stop between Manhattan and Sag Harbor during the 18th and 19th centuries.

From local community life to regional travel networks, we explored the rich layers of history that shaped Long Island and saw firsthand how the past still lives in the present.

We are pleased and proud to share that Dr. April Masten has received a 2025 Book Award from the Victorian Society of New York for Diamond and Juba: The Raucous World of 19th-Century Challenge Dancing.

The award recognizes projects and individuals whose work advances the understanding, appreciation, and preservation of nineteenth-century art and architecture in the New York metropolitan area.

Nico’s work explores the transnational history of Brazilian populism, while Debjani’s research examines the legal and social history of the mobile poor in South Asia.
