Team Wellness brought the energy to campus tonight with their annual Alcohol, Drug, and Sexual Assault Awareness event, turning education into something fun and interactive. With help from great community partners like the SLPD, CAASA, and MCAT, students got to test their knowledge through games, win prizes, and pick up important information along the way. Whether it’s understanding consent, knowing your limits, or stepping in to help someone, events like this help build a safer, stronger campus community.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this year we’re using a “supporting hands” theme to highlight how each of us can help create a safer, more respectful community. These hands don’t hurt; they are for helping, supporting, and standing up for one another. Consent is in your hands, and together we can stop sexual violence.

Today, everyone showed support by filling out words of encouragement and making a difference on campus. Whether it’s respecting boundaries, speaking up, or supporting survivors, every action counts. Change truly is in our hands.

🏀 March Madness is in full swing… but apparently it’s hitting our parking lots too.

We’re seeing some wild plays out there; cars parked on the line, over the line, and in some cases… not even in the same zip code as the line.

Unfortunately, this isn’t basketball; no extra points for trick shots, just a friendly reminder to stay in bounds and park between the lines.

Let’s keep the madness on the court and not in the parking lot. 🚗

🍀 Feeling lucky?🍀 Mobile Crisis Assessment Team (MCAT) and United Community Center joined the Wellness Center and Campus Security’s booth. Today we’re celebrating by supporting mental health with creating spaces where people feel safe asking for help before drugs or alcohol become a coping strategy. Our goal is to keep our campus community safe, supported, and feeling their best. While finding a pot of gold might be rare, taking care of your mental health and making safe choices is always a lucky move. Stay safe and have a and have a shamrockin’ St. Patrick’s Day☘️

Due to forecasted inclement weather on Sunday, and in consideration of students traveling back from Spring Break, all Storm Lake campus classes are canceled on Monday, March 16. Storm Lake classes will resume on Tuesday, March 17.

Residence halls remain open during Spring Break, and students may return to campus whenever it is safest and most convenient for their travel. Dining services will resume with the Sunday evening meal, followed by regular hours on Monday.

Travel safe back to campus!

Today’s booth was in full Spring Break prep mode. We talked about responsible alcohol use (know your limits, hydrate like a camel, and plan a safe ride), sticking with your bestie, and remembering that sunscreen isn’t optional for Iowans who have not seen the sun in a while. We also covered the importance of checking expiration dates on condoms and making smart choices. CAASA joined Health Services and us to share valuable sexual assault prevention information. Have fun, make safe choices, and hopefully enjoy some sunshine. 😎🌊

Hey friends, let’s talk about parking. It really shouldn’t be this hard to stay between the yellow lines, especially with no snow for months. And yet, some of you are giving up completely; parking in handicap spots, inventing your own spaces, and parking in lot driveways. Writing tickets is honestly the worst part of our jobs, so park nicely so the tow truck does not come if you're naughty.

And please, stop inventing your own parking spots because it's too far to walk. Part of being an adult means you park like a normal human being between the yellow lines. You can do this. You may not believe in Santa, but we definitely believe in you!

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, which means chocolates, roses, and the awkward “so… what are we?” conversations 💘😂 But before you pucker up, let’s talk about something even more important than heart-shaped candy: consent! Always get consent because surprises are for birthdays, not boundaries.

Our awesome friends at Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) joined us, too. They provide services to victims and survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse. They are real-life superheroes without the capes. Need support? The CAASA Hope Line is available 24/7 at 1.877.362.4612.

Valentine's Day is all about good vibes, big love, and kind hearts. Take time to appreciate yourself, because self-love is the foundation for every other kind of love.

Security set up an alcohol booth to remind students of Iowa's drinking laws, because “I didn’t know” still counts as breaking the law. Nobody wants to get arrested for ignorance. Remember, in Iowa, you must be 21+ to drink, and alcohol isn’t allowed in public places like streets or sidewalks unless you’re in a licensed or permitted area.

So make smart, safe choices when drinking and follow the law. And a friendly reminder: don’t be mad if security takes your alcohol. We’re not trying to ruin your fun; we’re trying to save you from an arrest and an awkward phone call to Mom asking for bail money.

Safety first, friends. Make good choices this weekend!

Fire alarm drills were conducted in the residence halls today, and a small group of students got the opportunity to pull a fire alarm without getting in trouble. Fire drills help everyone practice good safety habits and make sure we’re ready in a real emergency. Remember when an alarm sounds, exit the building right away, and wait for the official all-clear before heading back in. Huge thanks to everyone who braved the cold and participated. Safety isn’t always warm, but it is important!

Starting late tonight through Sunday, it will be offensively cold outside. Due to the weather, Security will be providing limited vehicle assistance with the low temps, because safety is for everyone.

Buford says this is a perfect weekend to stay indoors, do homework, and keep your windows closed so pipes don’t burst. Protect the pipes. Protect your GPA.

Please stay warm out there, friends. And let’s all agree this is NOT the weekend for shorts and flip-flops. We see you, and don’t want you getting sick too!

Welcome back, Beavers 🦫

It was a busy weekend on campus as students moved back. Security unlocked 37 doors on Sunday alone, which officially means we crushed our step goals and accidentally trained for a marathon.

While our campus is relatively safe, unlocked doors are basically an open invitation for trouble. Please remember to lock your door when you leave, as it only takes one bad egg.

Personal safety and responsibility matter, and we hate responding to reports that items were taken because of one very preventable, very lockable door situation.

Do your part: lock it up, friends! 🔐
